Hello everyone,

First, thank you for taking the time to read my topic. I am not exactly a newb when comes time to car electronics (I have many installations of H/U, amplifiers, subs, piggyback computers, gauges, etc.... behind my belt) but I am as far as remote starter goes and I am kind of stuck on an install. On to my problem:

As soon as I engage the remote starter (the routine you have to do in a manual transmission), the starter just starts grinding and it won't stop until I cancel the request to go in ''remote start'' mode. No difference if the key is in the ignition or if I take it out. I have gone through my whole wiring again and could not find the problem, I even checked with my multimeter and everything seems to check out. Here are a few tests\adjustments I did:

  • I verified to ensure that all the right modes were programmed in the brain (turbo timer is on since I do have the push button installed)
  • I installed a bypass for the clutch (relay) and it works flawlessly. I used the status output to energize the coil.
  • I tried to relearn the tach signal numerous times and even switched the input (I had it on the crank position sensor and switched it right on the tachometer, no difference). I even tried tapping the gas medal while it grinds and I can confirm that the starter won't disengage.
  • I took out the three fuses in my remote start harness and even though I did that, the car would still work and keep grinding the starter(!?) I tried the vehicle in automatic transmission mode (NOT RECOMMENDED) and confirmed that the car could start in this mode. However, if I start it  up in this mode, again when I activate the turbo timer, it will start doing like in MT mode and grind the starter.

As far as immobilizer goes, I do not have any in this car (even though they say that those Canadian models have one, I don't even have the light in the dash).

If anyone has any input or ideas, please share them as I am pretty clueless and am close to bringing the unit to a shop to get it bench tested (if possible).

Thanks

i had this problem one time, do you have the unit programmed to tach mode?, default is virtual tach,   and have you verified the unit has successfully learned the signal?

Yes, it is programmed in tach mode as it cannot be programmed in virutal tach due to the fact it's a manual. As for the signal learning, the LED did come on full solid and my car lights flashed once, therefore I am pretty sure it is well learned.

Have you tried voltage mode? Wait i just re-read your initial post where you said you removed the three fuses from the heavy gauge harness and it still grinds, re-check your wiring to ensure the starter wire isn't rubbing against any exposed ignition or power wires, it happens.

What do you mean you have the status triggering the clutch relay.... you shoudl be using the units - starter output. pretty certain that's your issue.

I thought that the status output could be used as a triggering while doing RS only. I will try the other way, thanks for the input.

I did check to ensure that no wires were exposed, as I thought it was the problem too at first and all is good.

No, my purple is connected to the white wire of the ignition harness). Why would it have to be on the yellow, since that one is an accessory wire?

Audiovox doesn't list a white wire in the ignition harness as starter. it lists yellow/red as starter Are you verifying all wires with a meter?

There is no reason the starte should grind if you have the three thirty amp fuses dissconnected, unless you have faulty wiring, ignition switch or relays that are latching.

Yes, all wires were verified with a multimeter. Actually, I found the wiring color of the ignition harness on this site. Please see below to see how I connected my wiring:

12V constant: Pink and Red wires of ignition harness - the 3 fused inputs to the remote starter harness (ignition 1 and ignition 2 inputs on red wire, starter input wire on pink wire)

Starter: White wire of ignition harness - purple wire on remote starter harness (starter output)
Ignition: Orange wire of ignition harness - pink wire on remote starter harness
Accessory: green and yellow wires of ignition harness - orange and pink/white (ignition 2 flex relay output programmed as accessory 2) wires on remote starter harness

I agree and don't understand that part either.... like I said, this has rendered me pretty clueless. All works fine with the key, which if not would then indicate a ignition switch issue but it doesn't seem to be the case. The starter doesn't grind at all when I start with the key. If the relays would be sticking in closed position, wouldn't I be experiencing issues with the key too?
