ford fusion 2006 avital 5303 hints?

I'm about to install a DEI Avital 5303 2-ways car alarm w/ remote start on my '06 Fusion w/o factory alarm. I'll use a DEI 1100F pats bypass. It comes with a dual shock sensor and I wont add any extra sensors for now.
I did all my homeworks; I printed and studied the alarm installation manual, my car's wiring diagrams from mitchell ondemand, the 1100F, wiring color codes from Bulldog Security and here. I even printed the installation manual from the Ford Genuine Accessories alarm/remote start, so I could study how they install it on that specific car.
So, I'm ready to proceed, but I'd like to hear from professionnal installers or people who did their own install, if there's any cue or tips about alarm/remote start installation on a Fusion?
How many relay required?    I know I need one on the light switch harness so the light switch wont show "lights off" signal to the SJB, when the remote starter turns the parking lights ON. (got the info from Ford Genuine alarm/remote start installation manual)
Is it OK to trigger the relays on the SJB straight from the alarm 200mA (-) outputs? for the Horn, Trunk popper, Parking lights, Rear Defogger? There's relays on the SJB for all these functions, triggered by a ground signal from the switches, buttons, whatever.
Any diodes required? From all my readings it doesn't seem to be required on the Fusion, but eh, i'm no expert...

While I can't speak of installing a Avital 5303 or a Fusion. (I've done Viper 5301, 5701 and 571)

Looking at the 5303 install manual and the wire chart from bulldog, It doesn't look to be that bad, from a just looking at manuals and guides view.

I can't say how cramped it might be under the dash, but grab your DMM and start testing wires. When your sure of the wire you want connect the remote starter wire to it, and solder, tape and insulate. Plan for an entire week-end as you will run into snags.  Take your time don't rush. You and I are not Pros.

While I haven't done a 06 Fusion, I have found the SJB as a great way to make the connections as long as it is accessible ( 07 and 08 Edge is a little tight ).

I don't think you will need a relay if you use the (+) Parking Light wire at the SJB.

The DEI 1100F is a great bypass although DEI doesn't even list it any more.  ( Just used one in a 2010 F150. )  Remember to select the installation mode ( two blinks ) properly.  I usually do a Factory reset first.  I also found it easier to program the module using the "ignition jumper" method rather than the remote start at Step 3.

AudioVox mentions a GEM module.  That could be a problem if it has one and it "goes to sleep".  To test for this, sit in the car, close all doors, lock the car with the factory FOB, wait 2 minutes, then try to unlock the car with the drivers door "Unlock Button".  If it is asleep, the button is in-op.  The Avital unit will use the same wire to unlock...    If it has one and goes to sleep, start searching on "GEM Wake up".

From reading other posts I found out about the parking lights (+) at the SJB, I'll hook it up there. I'll try to make most connections at the SJB.
I'll check about the sleeping GEM too.

I did the test and the gem doesn't go to sleep.
Anyone knows if I need any diode for that installation?

Hi there,
I did the install yesterday, everything went all right. You sure need some girly hands to do some of the connections!
I have one single problem, I can't get the DEI 1100F to program correctly. The remote start does work if I leave a key in the ignition:
- I get the bypass in the programming mode "2",
- I press the button to confirm,
- get key 1 in the ignition, put the ign. to on until the theft light goes away
- get key 2 in the ignition, does the same,
- Press the button on the bypass to save,
- Remote start.
Connections on the bypass are OK too,
- red to +
- black to ground
- blue to alarm "ground when runnin"
- pink to alarm "ignition output"
- TX to the pats TX wire
- RX to the pats RX wire
      ( I'm pretty sure the RX and TX are wired correctly, I have the Ford wiring diagrams and everything seems fine)
Anyone have an idea? If I can't get it to work, I'll order a DEI 556uw key-in-box bypass...

Strange, they usually program smoothly.  I just did a 2005 Freestar with a DEI 1100F, worked great first time.

The 2006 Fusion TX should be Violet/Gray at Pin 3.  The RX should be Yellow/Orange at Pin 4.

Try doing the Factory Reset first.  Then select the 2 blink install mode and lock it in by holding the button

until the green light comes on for 2 seconds.  The Fusion has the PATS3 immobilizer,so you will need two
working, non-clone keys to program the bypass to the car following the Type 3 procedure.  I have found that
sometimes instead of doing a remote start as the last step, I just jumper the cars Ignition wire to +12v.

If you are still having problems, you might want to check that the Pink Ignition wire is getting +12v and

that the Blue/White wire is getting the (-) 200mA Status Output - GWR signal from the 5303.

The nice thing about the 1100F is you can repeat the programming procedure as many times as needed and

even reset it and use it in another car.

oh! It looks like the step I have missed... I didn't hold the button for 2 seconds to lock the install mode... I'll give this a try tomorrow and come back to report!

Yep, I got the DEI 1100F to work!!
Problem was with the pink wire from the 1100F, it was connected to the -12v ignition output (small pink wire) of the 5303. It needs a +12v ignition input, (polarity is not specified in the 1100f installation manual) so I connected the pink wire from the 1100f to the big pink (+12v ignition output) and it works fine!!

btw, I didn't hook up the tach signal wire.
I decided to try DEI's "virtualtach", it's seems to work flawlessly, I haven't experienced a missed start yet. I kept the tach singnal wire, so if it ever becomes a problem, I'll repin it to the 5303 connector and connect it to a coil.
