Hi. My name is Kris and this is my very first post here at 12volt. I own a 2008 Ford Focus.

I had previously installed a Magicar alarm in the Focus but it has died and does not work anymore.

I decided to upgrade so my friend and i both bought Brand New Alarms ( clifford matrix 1.2 p/n 4102x ) which i installed into his Truck with no problem at all.

But my install has run into a snag. The alarm will arm but it will never activate when i open the door????

I have tied it to the dome light positive trigger and i can verify 12 volts when the door is opened???

here is the wiring diagram that shows what i have hooked up.

and here is the wiring diagram without any markings

Is there something special with the Ford and this brand of alarm?

The doors both unlock and lock fine. it chirps once when i lock it and two times when i unlock it. When i jump out of the car and arm the alarm: it chirps once and then again because the dome light does not shut off for 30 seconds.

If i wait 30 seconds and arm the alarm; it chirps just once only. but either way it still does not set off the alarm when i open the door.

Try to close the door and wait until the domelight goes out before you arm the alarm. Also, make sure to let it sit armed for at least 60 seconds before testing. If you are stilling having an issue, send me a PM with your email address and I'll send you the wiring diagram for the actual door triggers versus using the domelight

I agree with this post, also you may have to use a relay to trigger the alarm. Or you could try using the relay to trigger the negative door trigger and see what you get.

You seem to be using the purple for the dome light trigger, that should be green.

I have armed the alarm after the dome light goes out and it still does not activate when i open the doors.

i will try a relay to see what happens but i do not understand why a relay would be needed???

Can anyone send me a wiring diagram for the trunk release motor? it operates fine but i just want to see what wire does what back there.

The trunk release is very simple, RED / white from matrix to BLACK / YELLOW at either switch or GEM/fuse box.

hi kris,

when you say the alarm does not go off once it is armed and you open a door are you talking about a factory ford alarm or the clifford itself? if you are trying to arm a factory fitted security system you would need to use the H2/1 and H2/3 tied in to the arm/disarm wires for a ford factory installed system to arm/disarm it with the clifford remotes rather than the originals. just curious as my dads truck has the same model clifford but it is just a remote start and keyless entry system but gives the option to still utilize a factory security system.

Let me start from the very beginning.... i bought the car in early 2008 and it was a base model two door with nothing else. and i mean nothing!

I first had to go down to the junkyard and get a couple door lock actuators ( from a mitsubishi ) that i bolted into each door and ran wires to the glove box area. i then tapped into the trunk release ( which had a motor ) and ran that wire to glove box area. last was to tap into the dome light ( 12 volts when activated ) and run to glove box area.

I bought two magicar alarms on Ebay (one for my sons car too) and installed it into my Focus with No problems. The magicar alarm worked great and would arm no matter if i waited for the dome light to go out or not. The alarm would go off as soon as i opened either door without fail! early this year the alarm started to not work properly and eventually would not work at all (the brain just would not work anymore?)

When i installed this New Clifford alarm; i used all the same wiring as the old magicar alarm had used.

Today i tried wiring up a positive activated relay...the relay would click when the door opened and dome light came on but still will not trip the alarm. i tried putting the dome light on the green wire but that did nothing too.

The instruction call for a 12 volt + input trigger so i just do understand why it worked with the magicar alarm but will not work with the clifford?

the +12v on H3/1 is for the system to allow you to get into programming mode and adjust settings for however you want them. the old magicar brain was by the sounds of it a vehicle security system so would sound a siren/horn when a door or trunk would be opened but the clifford brain is purely for r/s and keyless entry, even though it monitors door and ignition inputs it does not have the output to run a siren and is not programmed to operate like a security system when an access point or ignition is violated. you could probably get it to sound a siren when armed and an entry point is opened but that would involve some relays patience and clever thinking but do-able
