Ok I gave a 78 nova original engine 6 cylinder 250 and I want to put remote remote start on it. This install is basic but driving me up the wall. So Im basically don't want to use the power locks or any functionality of the alarm. Just the triggers for the doors hood and trunk. I don't need help with those because they don't exist so I will have to add them into the car. What I need help with is the ignition part. I watched a few videos online and they said I need a accessory, ignition, constant, starter wire brake wire and tach. The engine is of course not fuel injected so I put a solenoid on the throttle cable to push for gas and I'm going to use the trunk feature on the alarm to trigger the solenoid. The alarm I'm using is a viper 5X04

Carbrueted engines require interaction by the driver to get them started. Ie, the driver operates the throttle as required to get the engine started. Unless the carb is perfect, and will always start with the same travel of your solenoid, in any weather, regardless of engine temperature, you're going to be frustrated with time-outs and no-starts.
There's a reason instructions and recommendations for Remote Starts always include "for installation on fuel injected engines only". Because EFI engines start reliably under a wide spectrum of conditions.

I understand that I got the carb rebuilt and I'm keeping the factory key option I just wanted to know what wires I actually needed

I'm doing this from memory. I don't think the colors have changed over the years.
On the Nova Ignition Switch:
Pink = Ignition
Purple = Start
Brown = Accy
Red = (B+)
There may be a dk grn = "bulb test" do not connect anything to this.

Most RS DO need a brake switch. And a tach wire may help you with more reliable starts with a carb'd engine. And if you don't connect to the starter circuit, how is the RS supposed to function?
Again from memory:
Brake = white wire at brake switch or turn signal switch connector.
Tach = A 1978 should be the GM HEI distributor. A big-azz thing. On the 'leg' that sticks out, there's a pink wire marked "IGN" and next to it (looking up) a terminal marked "TACH". Use this terminal for tach.

The pur and pur/wht wires "lower on the steering column" are the neutral safety switch. Use the purple wire at the ignition switch for starter.
You also need the hood pin as a safety input. Put one in.

No, the tach wire shouldn't be at the steering column. If your vehicle has a tachometer then you would be able to use the signal wire for it. If it doesn't, then it will be at the distributor cap... as Davep stated. The BROWN / white I believe is a resistance wire for the alternator. Brown is used for parking/tail light circuits, accessory circuits, heater circuits.

Ok I found the tach at the cap that's a no brainer. The thing is I'm looking a wire shematic online and it gives color codes and the book doesn't show the steering column wiring only shows the starter
