I am getting ready to install an Avital 2101L Keyless entry unit in a 1999 Suzuki Vitara and I want to make sure that I understand it correctly. I assume that I need to connect the 2101L's LOCK #30 COMMON OUTPUT to chassis Ground and the LOCK #87 NORMALLY OPEN to the Pink wire from the door switch and then do essentially the same think with the UNLOCK circuit except use the Pink/Green wire. Is this correct? Thanks.

Not quite.
PURPLE / black and purple to ground.
GREEN/ black to lock wire (pink).
Blue/black to unlock wire (pink/green)
WHITE/ black and BROWN / black not used.

Thanks, Howie. Out of curiosity, why is it better to hook the inputs to ground rather than the commons? From a logic standpoint, it would seem that either way should work.

The definition isn't intuitive, I'd make the same mistake if I didn't know the colours.
I'd treat purple and PURPLE / black as Common input.
Blue/black and green black as lock/unlock Normally open or NC.
BROWN / black and WHITE/ black as Normally closed or NC.
Thus Common = 30.
NO = 87.
NC = 87a.
