2001 Tacoma and the 5706V

Hey Folks, I've been researching like crazy on these forums and have found lots of great info. I even came across a 2003 FSM (my understanding is this is the same for 2001) for a tacoma and have been using it to verify the wiring diagrams on this site and from members advice. I've done some testing with DMM and would like to verify some of the discrepancies I've found between the12volt wiring results and member results parking light output - this is found in the 12 pin connect on the BACK of junction box 1 and is pin 6 ignition 1 - this is actually shown as BLACK / YELLOW from the FSM ignition 2 - this is shown as BLACK/ red from the FSM power lock input/output - from the door and not the rocker I was able to test the gray and purple pins at the front of junction box 1 on the white connector. they show a small voltage (0.4V) and go to 0V when i turn the key in the door. i assume these are the correct wires? still not sure the best place to find the tach wire (black) - I've read its at the data link connector (ODB II? which i dont know where that is), behind the glove compartment on a connector, pin 26, and at igniter on passanger wheel well. agian no clue where that is. Picture would be awesome or maybe it has a connection at the junction box 1 (some people have referred to this as the fuse box on the drive left kick panel). when I did most of my testing it was with a crappy probe at the back of the connector while it was plugged in (all tests were done this way). I am either going to use some small left over wire or a insulator piercing probe tomorrow or the day after. also any help on how to test these to verify I found the correct wire would be greatly appreciated!

Tach is pin 9 on the OBD the socket will be under dash, driver's side. Wiki OBD to see the shape. You should verify everything. Everything bar tach can be tested on a vehicle of this vintage using a 12 Volt test light from Snap-On, Mac, Sears etc. The only thing you'd need a DMM for would be to verify tach, black probe to ground, red to suspect wire set 20 VAC range. Even so you could connect your violet/white wire at H2 directly to this wire. If after installation you can then set/program tach to see if it's correct.

It doesn't matter which way round you connect the ignition wires, on a Toyota they are both equally important. Pink on H3 to BLACK/ red. Pink/white on H3 to BLACK / YELLOW.

What is the tach supposed to read (AC)? There are only 6 pins being used on my ODB (right side with underside of dash removed) and some of them read 30, 25, and 14 VAC. None of them change values when I press the pedal while in neutral.

Here's an alternative:- Any fuel injector; instrument cluster, brown 13 pin plug, pin 4.

Lt.GREEN/ black with tacho. 2nd. alternative:- Injectors; each has two wires, one colour is common to all, any of the other colours. Should read 1.5-5VAC.
