I am looking to install a remote start and security system in my 2004 F350 Powerstroke.   I found a wiring sheet for it but where do I get my Tach signal for my Remote start? Will my diesels High idle kill the remote start? How do I know if I have a GEM Module?   I am pretty good with wiring and can figure most things out.   I do have a question tho when it says for example (Door Unlock Lt Blue/Red -) what is the - vs a + is it grounding out that wire to make an unlock?

You have a 2004 which does not have a GEM. It has a VSM.
A (+) means that wire, signal, or output is a Positive voltage, measured to ground.
A(-) means that wire, signal, or output is a Negative voltage, measured to ground.
Read your above, it tells you where the tach wire is.

Not to complicate your day but what exactly is a GEM and a VSM? Just for curiosity sake.   I also see the section on the Tach now apparently I am blind..   I was looking at getting the Excalibur AL-1860-EDPB is this a good unit? It got good reviews but I just dont want to get stuck with a total POS

Not familiar with Excalibur. Can't comment.
Generic Electronic Module and Vehicle Security Module. The GEM performs the functions of a Body Controller. The GEM was 99-01. The VSM in 01-07 doesn't perform as many functions as the GEM did. A lot of the GEM's functions are now performed by the instrument cluster. You can tell if an early Super Duty / Excursion is GEM or VSM by looking at the odometer. The old dial analog is a GEM, and the electronic digital odometer is a VSM.
The electrical systems and layouts in the SD's have undergone several major redesigns during its evolution. I participate on Powerstroke forums, mostly in the 7.3 section because that's what I own. When the guys don't give their year, it's tough to advise them because there are significant differences between them.
