Hey all,
Parents bought a Kia Sportage last year and everything worked good until a few months ago, when the aftermarket keyless entry/remote start quit working. Now that the weather is nice, I tore the dash apart and found it is an Avital 4103.
I have tried a few things and am stumped. It does not have a valet switch installed so I originally tried jumping the terminals and got no response from the brains. So I unplugged the main 6 pin harness and let it sit for 7 or 8 minutes and plugged it back in, then I jumped the pins again and I got it into program mode. I tried pushing the lock button on the key fob, the light on the fob lights up but the car doesn't seem to be getting any kind of signal. I tried the second fob just to make sure and it doesn't do anything either. So at this point I am a little bit stumped.
I did notice that it looked like the connector on the brains that goes to the antenna looked like it had been rubbed down to the wires at some point in the past and somebody soldered the wires back onto the connector. The connection seems solid so I am not sure about it. Does it sound like an antenna issue or is there something else I should try before buying another antenna? I hate throwing parts at things trying to fix them, especially when its something I don't know much about, like these systems. I'm old school, I don't have any keyless entry on my vehicles so it still seems like rocket science to me!
Thanks for any help!

I've have had bad antennas on those. As well as just confused ones. Try unplugging the antenna for a few mins and plugging it back in see if it comes back to life. You can unplug it right at the antenna you dont need to go under the dash.
If the system goes into programming and unplugging the antenna doesn't do it for you I would try a new antenna

Thanks Chev for the reply. I tried unplugging the antenna and waited about 5 minutes and there is still no response. So I guess the next step is to try a new antenna. Thanks again, I just wanted to make sure I was on the right track!

Hey I’m having the same problem with mine. The system was working intermittently so when I went to replace the battery in the remote I found a cracked solder connection on the board. So I soldered it back and also purchased a new remote. I tried reprogramming the remote and the unit goes into programming mode but does not respond when I attempt to program the remote using the lock button. I ordered a brain, new harnesses and antenna for 25 bucks. So I may swap it all out. Was wondeeing if you fixed yours?
