I need to install a car alarm on my car. I saw the CLIFFORD RSX 3.5 and it seems pretty cool.Problem is, the Clifford dealer looks a bit dodgy to me, and I want to have my own electrician to install the alarm. Is the install straight forward, or does it involve scessive modifications?I dont need/want to install the remote start, if this helps.I dont want to disable the car's immobiliser.

P.S. I got a retail price of 500$ for the alarm unit.

and what kind of car do you have that needs the factory immobilizer "disabled"?  ive never "disabled" one.  there are integration parts commonly called bypasses.... but they dont "disable" anything.  think about it... if you have a 1999 cavalier with passlock.. you need a 555L to learn the cars passlock code and duplicate it for RS.  now, when you put the key in a turn it, the car starts,  if you shove a fork in the key hole and just happen to manage turning on the ignition, the car still wont cranks because the code isnt being sent.  they only time someone might "disable" factory anti theft is on VATS.  and thats if the installer does a shady job and just crimps a resistor across the VATS wires.  anything else is left intact.   think about it, if you jump in a car and hit the brake, the RS dies.  the wheel lock is still on, they cant turn on the ignition, or shift.

as far as the 3.5 goes, the starter kill is built into the RS harness and you have to have the ignition wires hooked up to program the brain... basically you just did the remote start.  all you have left is a door trigger, siren, and shock harness (also lock wires if you have them).

See what I mean when I say that the dealer is dodgy??? I stated that I dont want the autostart, so he offered to install the 3.5 without the autostart install, but he should have stated me the 2.5. I didnt even know that there is a 2.5.

I am not familiar with electronics. I will give him a call and state if there is a 2.5, and then see what he says.

Does the 2.5 have all the "responder" functions?

Does it involve excessive installation, or is it easier than the 3.5?

it is the exact same unit as the 3.5 except that it is Security only...with no RS   which means you can install it in manual transmission vehicles as well...

only thing i would mention and i dont know if the warranty is different there, but here there is no warranty on any Clifford products UNLESS it's installed by an authorized Directed dealer.

you may want to check into this......

HM, ILL HAVE TO ASK ON THAT ONE.

Anyways, the dealer does not have the 2.5. only 3.5.

He says he will install it for me if I want, with a charge of course.

I wonder, how difficult it is to install the 3.5 without the remote starter??

does it involve taKING LOTS OF TRIM OUT OF THE CAR, and putting it back?

I dont want to spoil my porche's interior, if you know what i mean...

He said something about passing a wire all the way to the storage compartment(boot).

He will remove side trims, etc, and then put them back!!!

That is .... scary!

you can go to some electronics places and get it installed for free, as long as you buy it there. matrix 2.5 retails for i think $399
