Keyless Remote Programming

Gentlemen:

I have a 1999 GMC model 1500 Sierra VIN No. 1GTEK19R4XR512194. My son lost my Keyless remote and I only had the one. After purchasing a used one on-line which was the wrong one I purchased another on-line direct from a dealer. Both sent me basically the same instructions for programming it to my truck and I received a couple of variations on the instructions on-line. Nothing seems to work and I am hoping you can help me out with the correct instructions.

The instructions I received from the dealer are as follows:

1) Start with the ignition Off. Hold down the power unlock button on the door panel. While holding the unlock button turn the ignition On, Off, On Off ( one said to repeat this 3 times instead of 2 which I also tried). Release the power unlock switch on the door and the locks should lock, then unlock. This is where I have my problem even before I get to the new remote, because my truck does not respond.

One person said to do basically the same thing except to pull the radio fuse (# 17) and then do the above. Nothing works no matter what sequence or how many times I try.

The instructions then go on to say Hold down the Lock and Unlock buttons on the remote for 15 seconds. When the vehicle learns the remote, the doors will lock then unlock. As I said above, I never got to this step because the truck does not respond to the first step. Can you help??

Are U sure that your OLD Keyless Entry is a Factory Keyless Unit installed from the Factory when new??

Mo - No, I am not positive that my old remote was from the factory because I did not buy the truck new. However, shouldn't the truck still respond to the first steps of the programming procedure ? If not, what would you suggest I try next ?

You almost had it, try this and make sure all doors are CLOSED:

IMPORTANT: Before entering programming mode, have in possession all of the transmitters you will be using on the vehicle. Once you program the transmitter, all previous codes will be erased from the memory. The other transmitters will not be functional until you program the transmitters again.

To everyone who tried to help me with my Keyless Remote problem. I finally found out how to program it I had occasion to be back in the town where I bought the truck ( 60 miles away) and stopped at the dealership where I had purchased it. The service manager took time out of his busy schedule to come out and show me how to do it at no charge. Unusually good service in this day and age. My 1999 GMC is what they call the older body style and does not program the same as the newer ones. To program this style, these are the steps.

There is what appears to be a female automotive plug mounted just under the dash a little bit to the left of the steering wheel. If you look at it closely you see that some of the holes have metal contacts and some appear to be empty. You take a small jumper wire, and make contact between the first metal contact on the right hand side of the plug (facing toward the front of the truck) and the metal contact that is in the fourth slot from right to left. The locks will then cycle off and on. Leaving the jumper wire in place, hold down both the lock and unlock buttons on the remote until the locks again cycle. Release buttons and remove jumper wire and remote should now work. It may not make any difference, but I did it with the doors closed. Again, thank you all for your attempts to help me do this and hopefully this info will be helpful to you in the future.

Hey ya all. i tried all above and no luck, but heres the deal, my daughters 99 jmc jimmy had a headlight problem, I found the biggest hack job i ever seen under the dash, come to find out that they hacked into the headlight harness, anyways i ripped the whole system out and spent an entire day repairing hacked into wires.

I have a 96 gmc yucon, I just bought it, it has a factory alarm in it with no remotes.... so i was wondering if the gm remotes from my daughters 99 would work on my 1996?
