I seem to be having a problem getting a new CT-5000 into a programming mode to accept a remote.  The unit powers up and immediately goes into alarm as expected.  But when i do the "hold hood pin switch down for four seconds", the parking lights just keep flashing.  Sometimes it will respond with a slightly longer flash, but when I try the next step, the "push and release", they just keep flashing. After a minute or so when the alarm quits, I try again, and the pin switch release after the four seconds triggers the alarm again.

I tried stripping everything down to bare bones... I connected only the two red battery wires, the ground wire, and the hood switch with an alligator clip to ground.  Nothing changes.. defective brain perhaps??

Any input is appreciated.
