I've got an '04 Dodge Deisel to install a R/S this weekend, I have a Scytek CHDL3-PK as my bypass and door lock control module-- I'm worried about programming it- the instructions seem a little vague and somewhat confusing- as to holding the unit up against the key chamber, "screw side close" and I can't see any screws on the module- I assume the instructions are outdated.  They also say things like select vehicles must have all four (2 ign, 2 acc) wires powered during programming, yet don't tell you exactly which vehicles need this, so I assume I will power all four when I "jumper" to ignition when told to during the programming mode- sure wish it did NOT have the coil loop to wrap around the key chamber, like the GM-U7 uses.

So if anyone has experience with this- I would appreciate some feedback to build my confidence- of what to do or not do-- If this one goes well- I have 3 more to do waiting in the wings-- Thanks for all your help....

you may not even need the bypass.  all the 03 and 04 dodge rams i have put r/s on never needed the bypass.  it says it in most tech sheets but it has been my experience that they are not needed.  try to remote start it with out the bypass piece in place, see what happens
If you say "I already know how", don't ask me a single question.

Added note:
Grey Key - bypass require
Black Key - No bypass

Thanks for the info- so what about the '05 Rams?  Does the same criteria apply?

Grey Key=Sentry Key
Black Key= Non Sentry
Key that is also a remote=Sentry
The screw side is the label side on the bypass... BTW.

the CHDL3PK will only work if the Ram has factory security, ie. you can lock and unlock all doors from drivers door cylinder.
otherwise you want a PKU-CH for sentry key bypass.
Oh as well, there are 2 ign and 2 accessory needed.
parklights and brake can be found in the harness going into the drivers kick wire block (WHITE/ silver and WHITE/ tan respectivly)
there is no wait to start wire so set whatever unit you're installing to a 10-15 second delay. Tach can be found at the top drivers side engine, square plug at front, WHITE/ blue.

Okay- I don't have the truck here to tell if it is factory security or not.

So what happens if I use the CHDL3-PK on a non-factory security vehicle- I assume the door locks won't function through the databus- but I can trigger those through a relay and a set of resistors.  Can I assume the transponder bypass portion of the CHDL3-PK will still work?  I know it is a waste of a module- but I don't have time to order the PKU-CH.  I may be lucky and it is a factory security truck- I won't know until I test it when I get it.

I assume the test extreme1 describes is to stick key in driver's door and when turned- it will lock /unlock all doors.    What happened to testing by opening driver's window, locking door from electric door switch- closing door- then wait, then manually release door lock through the window, then open door from outside --and if horn goes off & lights flash it has factory alarm --- to determine if vehicle has factory alarm?  or is the key cylinder test just a "Dodge" thing

it's faster and works everytime.
if you decide to use the chdl3pk just for transponder, you only need the RED / black and brown wires. none of the data wires or lock wires need to be hooked up.

Great!!   thanks so much- I feel much better, I'd rather plan out my install ahead of time and do it right, then to have to hack and cut because of mistakes-- makes for a much cleaner install that way.

The owner doesn't even know if it has factory security or not- wife just drives, drives, drives it.........

I have also read in tech notes on wiring charts that the black key, grey key rule doesn't always hold true-- that even some sentrys use black keys- is this true or is the chart notes wrong?   Thanks again-  If you guys ever need auto a/c advice- I do it all year round- specializing in GM's

I've never seen a black sentry key, personally. There should be a red circular light over to the right hand end of the instrument cluster.... it illuminates when key is turned on, and goes away after crank..... maybe 3/16 in diameter, little bit smaller. Or, open up the column and look for the antenna/module at the key chamber to be really sure.
