Clifford RSX 3.5, poor range

Hi,

I had an RSX3.5 installed last december and its worked fine until last month when the range has been significantly reduced. I used to be able to lock/unlock and remote start the car from a 6th floor apartment with no direct line of sight... however, since last month, the remote only works at about 30 feet or so... i took it to my installer and they said everything looks fine and it might have been a loose antenna... it seemed to work fine in the store but when i drove it home, same problem happened... any ideas as to what it might be? my installer is a little out of my way so i'd like to go back there with a direction to give them as to what the problem might be...

what could cause a reduction in range all of a sudden like that? All the functions work fine, its just the range thats not good... any ideas?

i thought it might be the remote but i don't remember dropping it  at all. I recently replaced the battery and i use Duracell batteries... Come to think of it, i only recently started using those batteries... i'll try another battery brand to see if it works.

hmm well i've tried in multple locations, at work and at home... at their shop we really didn't test it far enough i guess... but it worked farther than the usual 30 feet and it was through their shop wall... but now its back to its old poor range self... I mean its not like it never worked before... it just started having poor range about a month ago and i've been trying to determine the cause of the problem... Apart from all the connections in the car, the remote is the next suspect...

Logically if it was issue with reception the car antenna wouldn't be an issue since all it does is just accept the signal right? Wouldn't the remote be the one that broadcasts the signal and if its weak that would affect range? maybe if i can get them to try a different remote that'll fix it... well thanks for the help guys, if anyone else has any thoughts please feel free to share...

well i can start my 3.5 from about a block and a half away, so i'd say at 30 ft you have a problem..... if it's not an RF interference issue ( which i have run into often) then it's time to try swapping components (remote, antenna, etc) until you find the problem... this is easiest done at the dealers as they have all of these items in stock to try....

at least that's what i would do for a customer... learn a new remote and try it, plug in a new antenna and try it, etc, etc... until you narrow down or nail the problem item....
