Specifically the starter relay.

The reason I ask is that I installed a Viper 550 esp. I had it all hanging out of the dash and working, but when I tucked it up under the dash the remote start wouldn't engage. The dash lights up, but the starter doesn't engage.

I've went over all of the wires, cannot find a problem, it just wont start.

I went over the wires again, checked everything I can think of. I probed the purple (starter) wire that's in the 6 pin harness running to the relay from the control mod, then activated the remote start. There was no change in current. This really has me stumped, it worked perfect numerous times before I mounted it all up under the dash. I also checked my hoodpin/brake/tach wires, they look fine.

Octane

did you check your fuses on the relay pack also you can try switching around relay heads to see if the relay is bad also did you probe wires going to the starter to see if it is going to 12v when started

When I probe the starter wire during remote start I get no voltage. I tried swapping the relays but had the same results.

Your brain may be bad on the 550esp did you say that when you checked on the ribbon cable the purple wire should go to ground when starting if theat isn't happening the brain is bad.

I figured it out!! The purple wire on the ribbon had a short. I ran a new wire and it starts now.

Now I have a new problem, sigh, this install will be the death of me...lol

I have the alarm set to tach sense, with the tach wire connected to one of the wires comming out of my coil pack. But when I start the truck, it runs for about 10 seconds then the remote start shuts it down. I know I have it programmed to tach sense, and I'm fairly certain about the wire on my coil. What could be the problem? I did try voltage sense on high and low, but the result was the same. It seems it does it as the truck settles to idle after start.

Also, just to be sure, which wire should it be connected to on a 96 Ford Ranger?

My remote start cranks my truck, but after 10 seconds or so it dies. I tapped the yellow/white on my coil for tach sense. Any help?
