I know it sounds stupid but I have run into all kinds of problems with all other kinds of alarms but this one has got me stumped. I was installing a viper 791xv in my girlfriends car ( thank god not a customers ) everythings good except the green wire that goes to the motor side of the starter does not go hot when truned by the key, but works with the remote start portion. I looked for some sort of activation wire that i may have forgot, but i got nothing. Does anybody have more experience with this alarm and what should i do? could it be a bad satelite relay? or just my goofey ass? for now I just buypassed the starter kill portion but i would love to get it 100% ritht. thanks in advance to all who post.

If its a 791xv no there isn't anything else that needs to be connected to activate the starter kill in the relay pack. But the green goes to the keyside and the purple goes to the motor side it says it right in the install manual. Does the car autostart? If so does it only do it when the alarm is disarmed? I mean there is always a possibility of a bad relay but I don't think it is in this case. On the 790xv they had the seperate relay for starter kill and on those it doesnt matter if green goes to key or starter just as long as the circuit gets interrupted was all that matters. On the 791xv it does. Triple check those two wires and switch sides if need be then try her out.

heard of some alarms with programmable  N/O or N/C relays fo starter kill  think Clifford make one that has that feature.

I could be wrong. but see if its programmable. I'm not sure how the viper is set up i never done one

sorry i'm half asleep.  with the programmable relay. it shouldn't matter once the alarm is unarmed circuit should be closed..

is it an external relay if so replace it.  if not run a relay off ground when armed output...

the ORANGE / black wire in the "ribbion harness"is for anit grind/ground when armed. test this to see if ground when armed. if for soem reason the relay in the satelite is bad, the "easiest' thing to do is use the orange wire in the main harness.

So basicaley what you are saying is that. The alarm does not need the starter to go though the sat relay to make the function of the alarm work? And to buypass the (so called starter kill) use the orange wire in the ribon to activate the starter kill on the relay.

the ORANGE / black wire in the ribbon harness is goign to the relay in the relay satelite. you dont have to use the green and purple wires in the satelite for starter kill. you can you the orange wire in the main harness for it. look over at the relay section on how to hook up. you still have to use the purple wire in the satelite so it will remote start, you dont need the green one.
