Does anyone have any experience with installing a Clifford intellistart into a Renault Clio?

I'm having some major problems! It's wired alongside a Clifford Concept 300(UK) a couple of questions to start things off.

Blue/Green wire = Handbrake on manual transmission and reverse light on auto transmission, my question is this supposed to be a live or a neutral feed? On the installation diagram it shows the wire connected to the bottom centre of the bulb which to me is the live. If this is the case here's my 1st problem. The feed to the handbrake light in the dash is neutral which wouldn't be much of a problem as I could just use a relay to invert the polarity BUT this would mean that the coil in the relay would constantly be energised as the neutral is not switched. Anyway this is not my main problem as I’ve tried both live and neutral feeds.

My main problem is the ignition connections,

On the diagram 6 wires are shown, 2 of which should only be fitted if required which are ORANGE / Grey (Ignition 2) and Grey/Orange (Heater 2) so I can rule these out.

The other 4 are the problem. These are Orange (Accessory), GREEN/ Blue (Coil Side Ignition +), WHITE/ Blue (Starter Side starter+) & Grey (Heater A/C)

Now there is 4 connections required to be connected to the ignition wires but on the Clio there are only 3 connections which are Red connected to B1at the ignition and the other end is connected to the battery + according to the Haynes wiring diagram. There are 2 yellows connected to A2 at the ignition, 1 of them goes to instrument cluster via fuse 10 in the passenger fuse box and the other goes to the engine fuse box fuse1 and fuse 6 then goes to the ignition module. The last wire is shown in the Haynes wiring diagram as white but in the car I’m working on is orange and is connected to the starter. There is another connection shown in the Haynes wiring diagram A1 and has nothing connected to it.

See my problem yet? Not enough wires at the ignition to connect the intellistart wires to. Now I’ve connected the WHITE/ Blue wire to the Orange at the ignition. and have tried connecting the Orange wire and the GREEN/ Blue both to the Yellow at the ignition and I have tried connecting them separately too. I assume the Grey wire (Heater A/C) is just for turning on the heater or A/C so you can heat up/cool down your vehicle on remote starting so I haven’t bothered connecting that to anything yet. now the Clio doesn’t have A/C so when I come to connection this wire should it be connected to the heater switch?

When I try to enable the remote start it states "Without touching the brake, transmit channel 11 (Level Shift button twice, then button 3) on the master remote. I take this to mean pressing the Aux button twice and the star button once. When I do this the indicators flash only once instead of twice and on one occasion flash about 6 times (I lost count and its only done it once) I turn off the ignition (the engine remains started) leave the car and press the arm button and nothing happens, the engine does not shut down and the vehicle does not arm and the only way to stop the engine from running is to pull out the ignition connector. even if I press the brake or release the handbrake it stills continues to run?????????

I haven’t connected any of the factory alarm bypass wires as there is no factory alarm in the car or the Bonnet Switch as this is already connected to the Concept 300 or the BLACK/ Green wire (- automatic transmission mode) or the Dashboard glow Indicator wires.

When I connect the Intellistart to Cliffnet Wizard and select "View input status & output control" in the starter menu. I get no reading from the Engine Status box, Temperature & Voltage Thresholds or Temperature & Voltage data. there all just blank and the triggers don’t change when I press the brake release the handbrake and I can’t remember if the hood trigger changes when you open the bonnet.

When I click on start engine nothing happens, When I click on Pulse start the Starter pulses once for about 1/2 a second. I have no idea what Active SRS means but when I click it nothing happens and the red indicator doesn't come on. Turn ignition on works when I click it but again the red indicator doesn’t change and from memory the Turn ACC On works but once again the red indicator doesn’t change. I have no idea what Active pulse 1 and Active pulse 2 means but they don’t seem to do anything. Read Thresholds doesn't change the threshold readings & When I click Clear outputs the only thing that does is kills the engine (remember I said I couldn’t kill the engine after taken out the key and try to arm, well this is the only thing that seems to kill the engine)

All of the alarm controls work fine in Cliffnet Wizard

I apologise for such a long post and appreciate you reading and would be extremely grateful if anyone could give me some advice or pointers. I've just tried to explain everything in detail to give you guys an idea of the situation.

I am quite good with wiring and electronics and have installed many alarms but this is my first remote start.

Thanks in Advance
Richard

Even the slightest thing you could suggest that could help me would be appreciated.

I DON'T/WONT let this system get the better of me

connect the GREEN/ blue wire to ignition after your immob point if you have this done

and the same with the WHITE/ blue wire connect after immob point

grey wire to heater input if you want this connected

grey/orange and orange and grey dont connect

if you have problems run it in auto trans mode which is connect the BLACK/ green wire to ground -     leave the blue green disconnected

when i done a peugeot 106 i got the starter wire which was blue at a big white connector above the fuse box on the passenger compartment so i think it should be the same as the clio.  let me know how it goes if you have any more probs give me a shout.

I haven't had a chance to have another look at the intelllistart as yet. Hoping to have some time this week.

Jst a couple of questions though. Is the Blue/Green wire (handbrake) suppose to be connected to a live or a neutral? if it's suppose to be connected to a live i've then gotta wee probelem. The clio's feed to the handbrake light is a neutral which is easy enough to invert via a relay but that then leaves me with the probelem of the coil in the relay constantly being energised thus causing battery drain (all be it, over a length of time).

Should i be connecting the GREEN/ blue & WHITE/ blue together then connecting those two wires to the ignition wire after the immob point?

Thank You once again, your hep is much appreciated

u will need that GREEN/ blue wire to go 12v+ before start otherwise it wont start for manual trans mode so u will need a relay to convert the polarity and the white and bluw wire will have to go after the immob point on the starter wire and the same with the ignition from the moduel to the ignition line

as i said before you can allways run it in auto trans mode this will mean you can just ground the BLACK/ green

Hi,

It's been a while since i've had the chance to look at this system again ut finally got round to it.

i think i have found the probelem but i dont know hoe to rectify it.

I ran the system in Auto transmission as you suggested and got a wee bit further. only problem now i think is with the RPM programing. It refuses to program. When i connect the system to cliffnet wizad pro and enter the RPM programming all i get is "No Code" when i enter the monitor feature of the clifford software, in the intellistart section i sometimes get engine off (even when the engine is running) or engine idle low. i know i have the correct wire as i have connected an aftermarket tach to the wire and got the RPM readout no problems.

i have even connected the intellistart to the - side of the coil which made no difference.

Because the RPM isnt set, when i press the * button to activate remote start the engine cranks, starts and continues to crank for 10second then cuts off for a couple of seconds then tries to start again. i assume this is because the RPM isn't set the intellistart doesnt know the engine is staeted.

Any suggestions?

Richard
