Hi everyone,
I am trying to install the Compustar 2W900FM-AS alarm/remote start on my gf's '91 civic hatchback. I have been working on cars for a while now so I'd like to think I'm somewhat mechanically inclined, but an alarm/remote start is something new for me.
I have a few (stupid?) questions that would really help out.
This is a brand new unit with the remote start functionality (main reason it is being installed). It has never been programmed.
We first wanted to hook everything up minus the remote starter just to make sure we were on the right track. We hooked up the siren, hood pin, brakes, door unlock/lock, shock sensor, power, ground, but did not hook up the ignition and starter.
We attempted to power it up to see if we could get the doors to lock and unlock. The pager/remote does not detect a signal from the antenna (shows no bars at all). I tested the harness going into the antenna and it IS getting full power.
Q1: Is this simply because the remotes haven't been programmed yet? Judging by the programming sequence, the ignition (at a bare minimum) needs to be hooked up. Is this the case? I assumed I should atleast get some reception/signal from the antenna if they're not programmed. If the remotes do not need to be programmed in order to receive a signal, any idea what could be wrong?
In regards to the remote start, I am a bit confused regarding the wiring. Pin 7 on CN1 is for the Ignition and is labeled as being GREEN/ red. However, on the actual harness there are 2 wires coming out of this pin, a green and a red (after reading the wiring manual posted on this site, it says this wire at pin 7 is green??). Why are there two? In the vehicle wiring
here, it says the ignition is BLACK / YELLOW and located in the ignition harness. In the ignition harness, there is a wire that is BLACK / YELLOW but there is also a black and a yellow wire.
Q2: How does this wire up? Why are there 2 wires from the compustar harness? Does the green wire from the harness tap into the BLACK / YELLOW wire in the ignition harness then the red to power? I'm confused here...
This vehicle was originally manual door locks. I converted it to power about a year ago so I still have all the actuators hooked up and the wiring ran. The 'brain' for the keyless entry was a ghetto Bulldog Security 'alarm' (did not hook it up, just used the keyless entry function).
Q3: Will the lock/unlock output from the compustar brain work in the same manner as the bulldog one did in regards to locking/unlocking the door?
Q4: There are wires on the compustar for 'door trigger' and this is also listed on the wiring information. Since this car was originally manual locks, are there still door triggers? I am assuming yes, but would like to verify.
Q5: In the wiring information, it lists 'accessory' as being on the ignition harness. Does this hook up to 'accessory' on the CN1 harness on the compustar? Reading the wiring manual, this is for the blower motor for the heater or a/c. Is this necessary? Can you not just leave the controls on in the car so it starts automatically when the car remote starts? Or is this needed to supply power to the motor?
Q6: In the wiring information, it says "Steering Column, use Relay" in regards to the wire for the horn. Can someone elaborate on what you need the relay for please?
Q7: There is no 'dome light supervision' listed on the wiring information, any idea how to go about doing this one?
Any and all help is greately appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Thanks again,
Chris
