dei 555u, 556u, 556uw?

Hi, I'm looking to by a universal bypass module for my VW Polo (UK car). I've seen many DEI modules labelled 555U, 556U and 556UW. Could someone with more experience tell me what the difference between these 3 are? Thanks,

I thought the only difference between the 566u and the 566uw was the packaging the piece came in.  Either a clear plastic clamshell or a cardboard box.Cause I'm So white and nerdy...

Hi, thanks for the info. How much should I roughly be paying for one of these units? I'm from the UK so will be buying when I visit the states just don't want to get ripped off. Also do they have to have a key inside or can I just crack open the key fob and place the rfid chip inside(I think that's how it works)the unit, as leaving the key inside seems a bit risky to me. The DEI U's range greatly from retailer to retailer. I have seen people pay $25.00 and others have spent $50.00. It really depends on where you get it from. There are other brands as well, you can find the Omega4 universal bypass pieces on fleabay for $18.00 shipped. As far as the key inside, you are correct in the fact that the only part required to be in the box is the chip from the key, but if you are looking to give yourself the extra protection of not leaving a working key in the car, just cut the metal off of the key and leave the head in the box. Most of these boxes are desined to have the entire head of the key in the box. Hope this helps.

The 555u has one broadcast range where as the 556U has 2 ranges, the 555u uses an antenna ring, the 556U gives you the option of using the antenna ring or tapping into the factory antenna ring. The 556U is in a blister pack (plastic case) and the 556UW is the bypass in a little white box (Hence the W for white). You can tap into the factory ring with the 555u too.  By the way your sig is great.

Right but I cant remember now, does the 555u have the key sense wire and ignition wire on it, its been a while since I used one but If I remember the 555u has a 3 wire harness with a 2 wire antenna and the 556U box has a 6 pin harness and a 3 wire antenna.double-secret reverse-osmosis speaker-cone-induced high-level interference distortion, Its a killer

No the 555u just has the antenna plug then a 3 pin.  Blue white and red.  If you were not using the antenna loop that's when the white wire came into play.  YEah the 556 is better since it's got that whole keysense and ignition stuff built into it now though.Cause I'm So white and nerdy...

Thanks for the advice all. At least it's cleared up a few things about the module. I'm suprised they're still selling the 555u module online. I now know to go for the 556U Thanks,
