disable auto on lights pontiac

I'v currently disabled my DRL's, but I notice my headlamps still turn on when its dark out. I'm wondering how to disable this feature is it a fuse? I'v check the fuses for any labeled "auto on" but havn't found anything so far, is there another term it would be labeled as, or is it not a fuse at all and requires a tad more work. 2001 pontiac grand prix SE

I've been sick lately, sorry I won't be on much.

if it is a law up there more and likely tere is no on/off switch. find the sensor and un plug it, hopefully the lights still can be turn on. does it have a senstive knob or waht ever teunit all the way down so it dotn come on. those are so anoying if not set right, drive by street lighs or waht ever dam brights lighs go on off on off, hate thsoe things.

Do you not want the lights to come on at night EVER, or just at certain times, like when remote starting? --Generally, on GM cars, if you apply the parking brake BEFORE turning the ignition on, the autolamps will stay off until you release the brake. --If you find the parking brake wire, test it (it is probably negative-trigger), and use an output from the remote starter to trigger the parking brake.....that should keep the autolamps off while the remote starter is on.

well, I'v already disabled my DRL's. I just want it so when it gets dark out my lights won't turn on. when i set my light switch to off they still will come on no matter what, also when driving at dusk when you go under street lamps it just makes my lights flicker on then off..... I think they're maybe a photoresistor or something that checks for the ammount of light outside would this be safe to just just the wire going to it, then should be no more auto on lights at dark? maybe *shrug*

Yeah I'd like my headlights never to comeon at night. Unless i turn them on.

There's a photoresistor in the dash, in the defrost vent.  The only way to really unplug it is to remove the dash completely from the car.Cause I'm So white and nerdy...

Do you think they would do this at a GM dealer/shop, or any mechanical shop I don't really feel confident enough to remove my whole dash and then reassemble it.

At least on the GM cars I've owned, if the photoresistor is unplugged (or goes bad), the lights stay on ALL the time. But, I suppose you might be able to remove the photoresistor from the car, place it in sunlight and measure its resistance, and then wire a similiar resistor into the car. But, have you tried the parking brake first, as mentioned above? It might be as simple as wiring a hidden switch to trigger the parking brake wire, although you'd have to live with the "BRAKE" warning lamp on the dash. Also, have you looked in the owner's manual to see if there's a way to turn the feature off? Newer cars offer a lot of custom settings you can do.
