hey, i just noticed today that my ground when armed wire doesnt seem to be working. i found this out when i accidently turned the key over during remote start and it grinded..
after looking over all the wiring, i still couldnt figure out with it was still grinding, so i put a seperate starter kill relay using the regular orange ground when armed wire.. well i tried it again, and still it grinded. i pulled the relay out and metered the orange wire from the brain, and the ORANGE / black wire from the harness that connects to the remote start relay satellite or whatever its called, and neither of them seemed to be metering ground when armed.
my question to you guys is what do you think could be the reason for this.. and how could i fix it?
my guess is that the brain is damaged, and if so, ima rip it out and ship it out to dei under warrenty.
i need that ground when armed signal for my starter kill relay (i have two starter wires) and for my motion sensor.

Use the status output for your antiground problem
Wiring up your relay goes like this
85 status wire from alarm (blue if its a DEI product),
86 12v,
87a key side of starter,
30 to starter side of starter

nice, now for the starter kill.... ive seen other posts where they suggest using the siren output... but i donno.. does the siren output go off as soon as ignition is turned? id prefer another negative signal like the status output, so i can save myself from using a billion relays.  currently i have the two starter relays hooked up to a push button that closes the starter circuit.. for now

if i do the anti grind, ill hook up the negative status output to the relays that i have on the push button, would i be able to use another negative signal on the same set of relays for the starter kill?

Did you test the starter kill too, not just the antigrind?
Sit in the car, arm the alarm, and then wait a few seconds......turn the ignition on (alarm will sound), and try to start the car.....will it crank?
--If the starter kill works, but the antigrind doesn't, go into the programming menu; someone has turned the antigrind feature of by mistake.
--If the kill AND anti-grind don't work, you still could have an install issue......bad relay, relay wired wrong, or you killed the wrong wire.........cut the GWA away from your relay, and then TEST the wire coming from the alarm for an actual ground when armed.
--If the orange wire really does put out a ground when armed, troubleshoot and correct your install error........or, if the gwa output is indeed dead, you can use the status output like captainzab says, and you'll at least have anti-grind.

yup, put in new relays, tested the wire, and shows no ground. yea, i tested the onboard starter kill... this originally came to my attention one day when i was eating in my truck. i have passive arming on so i forgot that the alarm was on and went to start it, and the alarm started going off... but the truck still started...

is the ignition wire hooked up? dont think it matters, but maybe the black wire on starter kill should be pointing towards the starter and green wire to key side.
if not, unplug your brain completely and let it chill for awhile. Then plug it back in.

its the viper 791xv remote start system, so it doesnt have the typical relay starter kill with the black and green.  the starter kill is built into the remote start satellite.  my truck has two starter wires, so i have one connected through that remote start satellite and the other relayed along with the the first so they're both cut when the alarm is on.  after trying just about everything im going to call directed tomorrow and get my brain exchanged, i just wanted to see if there was anyway to avoid the hastle of mailing it in and waiting for a new one.

thanks everyone who posted though!

WOW, 791XV
thought it was an old one where there was a starter kill relay.
The starter kill and antigrind is apart of the XCRS
Check to see if the brain antigrind is turned off or something.
Why would you cut 2 starter wire? one is enough. i never had a DEI brain go bad. Maybe something is wired wrong.
you said you tested it with a new relay? do you mean the second starter wire? Why would anyone use the AWG (orange wire) as a starter kill when the starter kill is built into the XCRS. There is no need for that.
And it has built in antigrind too.
before you call in, unplug the brain and let it chill for 5mins then plug it back in and test your starter kill and antigrind

well my truck has two starter wires.. the xcrs only has connections for one starter wire.. so without a relay on the other one... 12 volts still goes through the second even though the first is cut off, so it still engages.  when i said i tried changing the relay to test, i meant i tried using another set (2) of relays for those two starter wires (after giving up on the onboard starter kill), aside from the xcrs.  i checked the anti grind, and its set to ON.  we've had a few dei brains go bad at work from customers cars, but none in this manner.  we just pull the brains out and have the customer ship it to dei.  they usually get their stuff back within a week.. dei has great customer service.  i just had relays on the starter wires since i didnt want to deal with shipping it out, but now i want to add a motion sensor to roll up my windows when the alarm is armed incase anyone comes too close, but i need that ground when armed wire.

i added the relay starter kill to starter wire 2 because it was still engaging the starter even if wire 1 was cut.

i added a relay starter kill to starter wire 1 because the 791xv wasnt cutting the starter on its own for some reason.

then i hid a push button to engage the relays..

Hmm, that's kinda vaguely what I remember from working at the big box stores.
Where I work, we just swap out the old defective part with a new one, and send the customer on their way with a working system. Seems like the right thing to do to me.
