Tomorrow I am going to be installing a DEI 791XV in a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado. Tech sheet looks likes it going to be a pain in the rear. I am going to use the 556LW by-pass module.  My questions are:  Has anyone ever installed remote start on these vehicles, and have any issues, pointers, suggestions?

I saw that the 556LW has a wire thats going to the starter wire out under the hood.  Do I also need to hook up the thick PURPLE / Green (starter kill) under the hood as well??? I read some other posts on the colorado, and from what I'm gathering I dont need to hook up the starter kill. If that is the case, should I still run the thick purple starter wire up?????

Seems like most connections are going to be made at the passenger kick panel. I'm hoping to find the brake wire at the BCM.  I hate having to run wires from one side to another.  Or I can find a spot in the middle of the dash to hide the unit.  Thanks for any input you might have.  I've done some really tough cars, but this one seems like the toughest yet.  Thanks again.

Don't sweat it David, it's a cakewalk.

First, the heavy purple from the 791 relay pack will go directly to the starter input of the 556L and no where else.

You can't do a starter kill using the XCRS relay because there is no starter wire at the column. If you must do a starter kill then you need to locate the yellow crank wire (blue plug, pin 48 at the PCM on the passenger side firewall under the hood) and open it using a relay triggered by the 'ground when armed' wire and the small yellow in the XCRS ribbon harness.

Turn the 791's anti-grind feature off or it will never start.

Actually, the wires needed to hook-up the rest of the installation are all over the place like typical vehicles but you'll quickly warm to the idea that everything is in one common and easy to reach location - BCM in passenger kick.

There is an oem anti-grind feature on this truck so there is no need for a tach wire. Program your 791 for 'engine checking off' and '4 second crank'. The BCM and ECM will take care of business. Voltage sense works so-so which is why I recommend engine checking off - but it's your call.

There is no factory alarm disarm wire (it's data) and not required for remote starting - although it'll honk once. Oem security disarms through passlock+accessory+ignition.

This is the bulk of it, if I think of other stuff then I'll edit my post. Let us know how it went!

Prepare your future. It wasn't the lack of stones that killed the stone age.

Thanks for all of your suggestions.  I'm a little confused with the (+) starter wire coming out of the 556LW. The directech sheet says that it has to go to a purple wire underneath the hood. You told me I'm going to connect it directly to the thick purple wire coming off of the 791XV??????

I have the entire system in.  Everything works perfectly EXCEPT of course the remote start.  I did everything as follows and it just cranks, and cranks and cranks.  Then It wont even start the truck with the key for 5-10 min.  The programming of the 556LW is working just fine. I have tried tach, and it still wont fire.  All connections are perfect.  I think it has something to do with the purple starter wire directechs is talking about under the hood at the fuse block.  I'm going to keep trying. Any suggestions would really help

sounds like you have the wrong passlock wires. Double check those.

Yes exactly, you have wrong PASSLOCK wires in this truck/car, and in this vehicule he have no starter wire, it is a timming with accesory and Passlock value to allowed starting the vehicule. If you want this timming you need to install a PASSLOCK-SL or a PLDATA.IV (Very easy to install just follow "New Generation" instruction). If you don't have exactly this "timming" the car doesn't START and security light flash in dashboard.

thanks for all of your input. I got it working.  The OLD FASHION way with 2 relays, and a resistor did the trick. The 556LW was not learning the R-code correctly.  Sometimes doing things the long way are best. Again, thanks for all of your comments, and suggestions. I really do appreciate it.

oh, and there is a starter wire located under the hood.  At my job we install the interlock program for those individuals who cant seem to not drink, and drive.  One of my clients has a Colorado. I remember cutting a purple wire near the fuse box under the hood for starter kill.
