I want to hook up a remote starter in an '04 Pontiac Grand Am and an '04 Dodge Intrepid.  They both have factory alarms and keyless entry.  I would like to simply add a remote starter to each, and continue using the factory alarm and keyless system.  Also, I would like to have only one remote that controls all the functions of each car.  I don't want to have to lock/arm the alarm with the factory alarm, then turn around and use a different remote to remotely start the car.  (Different remotes for each car though)

Who as an idea of the easiest and least expensive way of doing this?

There are many systems that offer you the ability to control all keyless/alarm functions as well as remote starter for two cars using only one remote. I use the Autostart brand and they offer this feature on many models. Your Grand Am doesn't have a factory alarm, but it does have an immobilizer system called Passlock II.

There a few remote starts that will work right off your factory remote. DEI make one that requires 3 pulses to start and can be connected to your lock motor wire. Avox makes a very reliable unit, AS9075A, that you simply press lock, unlock, lock in sequence and it starts. This piece is probably a bit easier to install too. Both cars you mention will need imobilizer bypasses.

Almost any RS system out there can operate your Dodge alarm system and keyless entry. It's a single wire system. Arm is positive trigger thru a 1.87K ohm resistor. Disarm is positive trigger thru a 680 ohm resistor. MUST use relays. The Grand Am doesn't have an alarm system but still uses a single wire system. Lock is straight negative trigger. Unlock is negative trigger thru a 1.5K (1500) ohm resistor. MUST use relays. I suggest using a Compustar 1WAM-S as this will do RS, keyless entry, & trunk release as well.

"They both have factory alarms and keyless entry"
As mentioned grand ams don't come with factory alarms, so if that concerns you, you might want to upgrade to an alarm/remote start combo. If not, then it sounds like you want an add on remote start (Code Alarm CA-430 or an equivalent) which will work off of the OEM remotes. Just remember you will still be limited to the range of the OEM remotes. If you can't lock/unlock it from a certain distance, you won't be able to start it either.

Great advice everyone, I really appreciate it.  I'm really just wanting to add the remote start feature.  We're not worried about either vehicle being stolen or even broken into, because  we're in a pretty low crime area.  I don't care if each car uses the OEM remote or a new one, I just want one remote for each separate vehicle.  The other hope is ease of install, but I have done some work with these.

Everybodies posts are accurate so I'll add my brand choiceRemote Start, ’04 Grand Am, ’04 Intrepid -- posted image.. I would suggest the Ultra start 1270TL, easy to install and operate. With the grand am if you have keyless entry from the factory you can use a gmdl-bp for door locks and trunk and ignition bypass, I just installed this set-up in a 04 grand am life was good (thanx Jeff). And yes the ultra will arm/disarm the fact. security.

I just finished the UltraStart 1270tl in the 04 Grand-Am with a GMDL-BP. I got everything off ebay, although that can be risky. Everything was a breeze. I installed it in just under 5 hours. Not bad for a firt-timer.
By the way, the 1270TL does have a feature where you could use the same remote on two different cars. I plan on putting a 1270 in my truck and consolidating keychains/remotes, nice!!
I will also pass on a recomendation from XtremeJ to use Super33 Electrical tape. I have used cheaper tape in the past but now I really like the super33. Its $4 at Lowes, and well worth it.
Check this out for diagrams and PICTURES of your vehicle. Very helpful.

Just got the UltraStart 1770tl and GMDL-BP from ebay.  Can't wait to get it installed so the lady will get off my back! haha!  One question though.  When it comes to the lock wires, do I need to hook up the ultrastart in a 5 wire setup to the lock wires and also tap in the GMDL-BP wires into that?  I'm not sure how the two units interface/supercede one another.  The VIper I have does it all out of one unit.  Any other helpful hints or tricks would be great.  Where did you hide/mount the two pieces?

Great website link.  I didn't know about that ignition harness.  I'm ordering one off ebay right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
