Hello. I have a 2000 Dodge Caravan currently with a starter kill which involves pressing the hazzards before turning the key to start.

I just bought a Ultra Start 1270 and am getting it installed by a proffesional (I am a newbie). The problem is that he is charging an extra $100 to remove the starter kill I have in the van right now.

Is it difficult to remove? Currently there is a light on the dash that blinks till the hazzards are pressed to start the van.

I hope I included all the important information.

You are getting hosed on the price. If he is installing anything, he is already accessing all the same wiring. At the very most, he should only charge an extra half hour labour. Ask him to explain why he needs that much money to simply disconnect a few wires, tape them up and reconnect the starter wire. If the installer doesn't come up with a good reason, find someone else to install your system. You could also ask him to see if your unit has a starter kill option which he could hook up instead. Chrysler vans are too easy to steal. Having a starter kill is a good idea.

The Remote Starter Unit I bought says it has a passive starter disable feature.

So you recommend that I keep the starter kill I have? Will a Car Starter still start the vehicle via remote if that is still in the van?

Yes the car starter will still start the van. It just has to be interfaced into the starter wire after the starter kill circuit. I recomend starter kills on all alarms, especially on Chryslers. They are know to be easy to hot wire. The installer will know how to do this.

If it is not too diffcult for you to drop the lower dash panel(s), look at the group off wires coming from the ignition switch area. You will notice several thicker wires there.

If the only system installed is that starter kill, you will notice only 1 wire is actually cut. If you reconnect those 2 back together, and insulate (tape off) anything else, you just saved yourself 100 dollars.

If you can't do this yourself find another shop. You are getting hammerbagged on that price, it's no more then a few minutes work and as posted above, the installer will be in that area anyhow making connections.

I would say it is unethical at the very least.
