remote starter problems

my grandfather has a 2000 chevy sliverado truck, about 2 years ago he had a dei remote start installed at circuit city. he noticed a month later that the battery would drain if left sit for 2 days without starting, now he unhooked the remote starter from the car and has no problems, in fact he let it sit for a month and it will still start. he took it back to circuit city and looked at it again and they said they have no idea, basically saying sucks to be u. i am a novice car audio and security freak and do understand how to install however before i get into traking apart his truck i was wondering if anybody out there could point out some suggestions as what to look at i greatly appreciate it

Hmmm Thats a goodone... rs units don't draw a lot of power but obviousely thats whats causing it. Basically pull the main fuse on the rs [both of them if it has 2] and hook an ammeter upand see whats drawing. It should be very minimal, just sitting there. The bypass could be on all the time, or possibly a stuck relay... Im not a dei guy, but look at the parking lites, se if they used a relay to change polarity or something, I have seen that a few times.. Look at the bypass, ect... something is definitly sticking on... mabey something isn't shutting down after RS either....Tire Proz Stillwater Mn

My friend is having the exact problem with his Toyota Camry. His remote start works fine but if he leaves the car sit for over a day the battery dies.. If he unplugs the RS he can leave it sit for over a week and it's fine.. He hasn't had time for me to look at it yet so I dunno what the problem is yet.. I am watching this thread with interest...

yeah, thats the only time ive seen that prob.....usually a relay, either on board or external locks up and draws power when it shouldn't

This happened to me on a unit I installed in a 2003 Silverado. It turned out to be that the starter kill relay was powered all the time becuase the wire I used to trigger it activated when the doors were locked, it was an armed output/starter kill wire and the other side of my relay was hooked to constant 12 volts. If you are unable to reprogram the output of this wire, hook the 12volt side of the coil on the relay to the ignition wire. It will still function as a starter kill this way, but it won't drain the battery. Or, take this information to Circuit City and have them fix it like they should.
