Hi all,

First, thank you active members for your help when I was installing a Crimestopper 2610 into an old Toyota. I did a great stealth installation that I'm pretty sure it's not going anywhere. The tricky part was the double pulse to the door locks. Thanks to you guys, it's been working great now for over a year!

I picked up a 90 Civic and it's bone stock. It will need some security. While I'm gathering the time and pieces and knowledge of the car, I'd like to add a first layer of protection. Namely, a fuel kill and an ignition kill.

As I see it, in order for these to be effective (like any install), stealthyness is the key. I'd like to have a radio controlled switch to do this. That way, car starting is a no-go and the bad guy just thinks this old car "has issues" as the car has nothing except stock stuff under the dash.

Is there such an item in DEI's or anybody else's catalog (radio controlled switch)?

Try Carl's Electronics.

This 2 channel remote control switch has a claimed range of 250 feet. I've personally used it at 100 feet indoors and it works excellent. It uses 433 MHz code-hopping so it's quite secure. There's a nice PDF file at their site of an electronics magazine that reviewed it. It has an option for momentary or latching relays and they also have other kits with more relays/options. Also a good company to deal with.

Only the aforementioned indoors project. I have a power adjustable microphone stand in an auditorium that runs off a 12 volt motor. I rigged up a couple of relays to run the stand up and down and wired it all into the 2 channel wireless unit referenced above. I have wireless mikes on 900 MHz and lots of other sound equipment, and the 433 MHz wireless relay kit doesn't interfere with any of it, nor is it interfered with by the other equipment. I only have to go 70 feet with the remote, but it works everywhere within that range, even with the kit mounted inside a wooden cabinet.

You'll have to buy a project box to put the kit in if you use it, and I don't know the full real world range outside, but for the price, I'd be willing to try it if I needed a good 12 volt wireless relay for an automotive project.
