03 chevy tahoe speedo reading high

Hi I had one of my customers from a few years back call me regarding their 03 Chevy Tahoe's speedometer. He says it is reading high at times and normal other times. Of course he believes it is the remote starter. I told him I didn't think that could be it. But he told me he spoke to this guy at the dealership about the speedo issue and the first question out of the guy's mouth was "does it have a R/S in it?" I don't think there is a connection here but with the new databuss stuff it's hard to know what is and what is not connected to it. Has anybody else experienced such a thing with the speedo reading high or is it just the speedo messed up? Thanks Jon

I have also run into cluster issues on the Tahoes. One thing I found that the speedo will stop at the speed you are going if you are in a head on collision. It actually hangs on how fast you are going when you go KABOOM. Had a buddy at a local dealership tell me that could be reset but it never seems to work right afterwards. But generally it was like Stephen said it was right after a dead battery and in self check it would hang.
