Thinking about adding a python 990 alarm/remote start to my 07 mustang. Is it easy to install. I know alot about wiring cd players, amps, subs, speakers etc. I already got the wiring diagram from work. Any pros and cons for this system. Thanks

I beleive it's similar to the Viper 791.  I love the two-way remote feature, because I'm a bit absent-minded and would walk off, wonder if I locked my car or not, then I'd walk all the way back to sometimes find that I did.  Arrr...

Make sure you get the bypass module for the remote start.  You should be able to look it up here or whereever you are getting your wiring diagrams from.

thats the exact same as Viper 5900. Great unit.
DEI is easy for new people (make sure you read the install manual several time before getting started)
Wiring Diagram
Use both diagram, and use a DMM to test your wires before making any connection
For the bypass, i would use the PKU-F2 (havent used the PKF3 yet, but that also works)
Fairly easy car to do, If you are stuck, use the search button or ask.
For general questions about Fords, you can use different year Mustangs)
Note: You Always Dont Get What You Pay For.

I'm not sure that I am going to hook up the remote start. I drive a manual, and would have to change my parking habits to leaving the car in neutral instead of in gear. Also I don't want to deal with buying the Ford bypass. Cause my keys have chips in them. Do you guys think it would be worth it to add it anyways?

Never install remote start in a manual transmission unless there is some way to wire the remote start system so that it can detect if the vehicle has been left in gear or not.  Not all vehicle have this capability so if you don't think you can, don't do it.  Don't simply install remote start thinking that you'll just remember to leave it out of gear.  Chances are, you'll forget, or if someone else drives the vehicle for whatever reason, they may not know.  The results could be disasterous.

Yep, yep, can't even tell you how  to make that thing work on a manual or the mods will shut this thread down. Although, a couple of days ago, i saw some a thread on a part made by DEI that was finally gonna be shipped to the U.S. I don't know much about the part, but i'm sure someone can help. I'm thinking it was Enice that posted it....i could be wrong though.

Yep, that was me.  I went to a DEI advanced security training class in san diego and saw the actual module.  As far as I know its been out in Canada for a while.  The module looks like it was made by Fortin as it has the same housing that Fortin uses to make bypasses.  I asked when would it come and they mentioned that it should be shipping a little after the class was over.  I think its called the 689m.  Basically its like an add on "reservation mode" module for DEI systems.  The module is still on back order so as soon as I install one of those i'll give an input on it.  As for the bypass, its a piece of cake to install as long as you READ THE MANUAL and connect your wires properly.

I just went to the DEI website and didn't see the bypass 689m so where could I get one, and how much is it? I mean if I just got the 990 for the keyless/alarm and didn't use the remote start that would be fine for me. Will it hurt anything if I don't hook up the remote start. Could I possibly use the remote start button on the remote to instead open my trunk? Since it needs a remote to open it on my Mustang. Thanks for the help guys. I really appreciate it.anyone add python 990 -- posted image.

The 990 has aux. channels that could be used for trunk release. If you haven't already purchased the equipment and aren't to concerned about the remote start , why not just by an alarm. Will probably save you some money.

Also, to Howie II who sent me a pm on my earlier post about this vehicle. When i said " the mods would shut this thread down" i wasn't talking about bypassing the transponder. I could care less about how you do this. Believe me, any trick you know, i know...i work on a Ford lot. What i was talking about, was putting a DEI product on a manual tranny vehicle, and that's why i put a link to Enices posts on the same subject.
