93 honda civic won't start

Hi, i have a 1993 honda civic EX 4dr. and it all the sudden died on me and wont start! i've read somewhere that with civics (probably other cars too) that you can do what i think is called a "trouble code" which tells you whats wrong with your car by how many blinks it gives you. So what im wondering is if someone can tell me how i would do that for my 93 civic.

Was it raining when it died?   How many miles do you have on it?   Has the timing belt ever been changed?    Remove the oil filler cap and have someone try to start it while you look at the rocker arms, are they moving?

no it wasnt raining it was actually a nice day out. i had a new engine put in my car back in october 08 (with only 35,000 miles on it)  and its ran fine since. then a couple weeks ago i went and got my oil changed at jiffy lube, and when i went to leave it just wouldnt start. after having 6 "trained" machanics look at it for over an hour they told me to just push it down into a parking spot and leave it. so i called a ride and right when they pulled up i figured i'd give it one last shot, and what do you know it started right up. so i went to my moms house, since thats where i was headed anyway. and from then on it hasnt started. my step dad looked at it and thinks its the distributor, but its barely 6 months old... and i dont want to go out and buy a $200 distributor and have that not be the problem, so i was hoping maybe the "trouble codes" would help me determine if its the distributor or not. and yes the timing belt was changed with the engine, and as for the oil filter, i dont know what a rocker arm is so.... yeah, lol

The reason I asked if it was raining is that, I own a 94 civic and everytime it rains the vehicle will not start.  I have learned that if I leave the ignition on for about 2 or 3 minutes, depending on how much it rained, I can hear a relay click and the fuel pump begin to run.  When I hear this noise, the car will then start.  Car runs great other than that.  It might be worth your while to try that.   A rocker arm is the thing that opens and closes the valves, should be the only moving parts you can see off to the side of the oil filler cap.  Remove the cap and look all around the opening and see if you see ANYTHING moving.  No movement = broken timing belt.

well first off i know that OBD2 (on board diagnostics 2) came out in the late 80's and almost all cars since have at least some form of memory of when a trouble code pops up. one thing(if you can get it there) i know auto zone does a free scan on vehicles. i think its a gimmick to sell the parts after they tell u what it could be. regaurdless you could have them read any codes it may have logged and start there.

i had a 91 civic DX that i sold to my brother in law and there was some form os sensor that went bad on the distributor. i hate playing that electrical parts swapping game.. sorry cant be more of help there.

finally, i do know that when it rains its more of a strain on your ignition system and if youre having hard starting in wet weather then you may need spark plug wires. could increase fuel economy too so bonus haha. napa sells a brand called belden that has a lifetime warranty and seem to be very very very nice, compared to the cruddy auto zone wires.

yo i think it would be your dizzy or the main relay located under the dashboard.
as for the reading of codes you can lift up your carpet on the passenger side, there you will find the ECU there are also wires that run up the right side of the ecu, those are the wires you will be utilizing to read the codes. You will need a copper wire to connect 2 wires and then you'll see the red led blink.
for me to tell you what wires they are lmk wat engine you swapped in and the code of the ecu and i'll gladly help you.
NOTE: yes im a HONDA FREAK! =]

Just a point of fact correction. OBD2 first came out in 1994, but wasn't regulated entirely until January 1, 1996. The pre- 96 OBD2 systems complied with the standardized plug design with some of the wiring requirements. Before that, it was OBD1 where each major manufacturer had their own plug design and wiring setups. He'll need a OBD1 Honda reader to get data

if you have the tach on the dash the needle should twitch when you try to start it, if not pull back the carpet on the passanger side floor to expose the ecu turn the key on and count the flashes from the led on the edge of the ecu check codes here: www.hondaswap.com

So what does it do...just crank and crank...but doesnt turn over...? Never knew about the ECU and a L.E.D. for trouble shooting/diagnostics...Will have to look into that...! You really never experienced ANY problems prior to the oilchange...? I would check that info I am an Idiot gave you...
