where can I get an LED taillight kit?

I have a '53 Ford truck with the typical externally mounted taillights used on a stepside bed for the last 50 years. I recently saw a show on TV showing an LED kit for certain year trucks...mine wasn't one of them. It is a circuit board with LEDs soldered to it that sits right under your lense. It has a pigtail that fits into the original bulb socket. I could make the darn thing if I knew where to get the parts! Any suggestions?

i have made these things before just get some perfboard the correct resistors and a bunch of LEDs...

My taillights have parking light and brake light. How did you make them dual brightness? I thought about alternating rows, one row parking light, second row brake light. Did you use individual resistors to get your 20 ma each, or did you just tie groups of 10 in series to get the proper drop? Did you use the LEDs of old days that each one required 1.2V @ 20ma or is there something new?

nah LEDs are still that way, i do alternating rows usually. Most of the time I do rows of 6 with a 200 ohm resistor because I have a bag of over 100 200ohm resistors around

Try this place. The product is pretty good, if a bit pricey, and they have the complete kits (lenses, brackets, light boards, etc.).

Oh- by the way, remember to buy or make the resistor load box as well, or else your turn signals won't work properly. Lambert has that, too.

Ron Francis has a module for using LED taillites for both turn and running lights. they also sell a turn signal flasher for LED applications. It's pricey. $57Remotep
