hi guys. great sight! glad i found this...

i would like to know the best way to wire a fuse box i built for all my extra accessories:

i am thinking of running a heavy gauge wire from my battery to the fuse box with a relay in-line and using a lighter gauge wire hooked to my ignition to power the relay.

does this sound about right, or is there a better way?

thanx guys, tim

Sounds okay as long as the accessories you want to power require actual ignition and not continuous power.  Remember the accessories you wire to your fuse block can not draw a total current greater than what the relay is rated for.  A standard SPDT  C type bosch relay is rated for 30 amps.  If you use a higher current contactor you will be able to power more accesories without overload.  I don't know what you want to power but keep this in mind.  Always easier to allow for more stuff later now, instead of rewiring.
