I have been trying to figure out where I can get a usable tach signal for a while now, and no luck.
I tested every white and purple white wire @ the ecm and no luck.
I also tested every wire connected to the distributor, also no luck.
Would anybody be able to tell me where to get the correct tach signal for a remote start unit on this 2001 pontiac grand am gt?
Locations, wire colors, and voltage readings to look for would be great.
Thanks in advance.

i got violet/white as well. the voltage reading (AC) is a influx from 1 - 6 volts. Set your meter to AC red to pos of batt terminal and black to violet/white. start the car and look for a reading from 1 - 6 volts, and it changes when RPM is changing.

The wire can be accessed at the large loom going into the engine from the driver's side kick panel. There are two VIOLET/WHITE wires one larger and one smaller gauge. Use the smaller gauge wire for your tach.

I have tested both of the violet/white wire, and and all of the white wire from the ecm or loom of small guaged wire going through the fire wall, some of them did measure ac voltage and did fluctuate with engine rpm but only in from about 3 tenths of a volt to about 8 tenth of a volt.  The signal is not recognized by the rs.

Is there any other location to get a good tach signal?

On top of the engine there is a connector that has the VIOLET/WHITE wire.
