Okie Doke, gotta be honest with ya folks, I am not really educated with electrical components and how they exactly work....but I think I got the basics...but I need some help figuring out what I did wrong.
I have a 1984 27ft tow along camper that I am restoring. I have taken the old (not working) cassette player out and am replacing it with an updated vrcd400-sdu CD player. (you can view it at http://roadmasterusa.com/index.php?page=car-stereos)
When i opened the box I saw that it said this on top of the unit: "Caution: +12V DC Negative Ground" It is throwing me for a loop. This is what I did, I attached the red power wire to power source, and then grounded the 12v negative ground to camper frame. There is also a ground that splits off my power source, and when I touch it with my power light indicator it lights up (dim). So i grounded this also to the frame. However, my unit will not turn on. So I parked my vehicle close to camper and hooked up CD player to battery terminals. IE: 12v neg ground to ground terminal on battery and red power source to positive on battery. However, nothing lit up on the unit. Am I doing something totally wrong? Please help me, I told my wife I would have it ready for camping...thanks in advance!

Check the fuses on the unit, also it will have TWO power feeds, one permanent and the second marked ACC, probably yellow and red respectively. They should both be connected to 12v+. If you do that and it still doesn't work, the unit is U/S.

I too vote for making sure both the red and yellow wires are powered. If there is accommodations for such, the Yellow wire needs power on it at all times. The red wire is the switched wire, if it were in a vehicle, this wire would be connected to the ignition circuit of the vehicle, thus allowing it to only come on when the key is turned on. Since you are in an RV, you may have to connect both of them together.

is u/s=unserviceable? The yellow wire has a fuse on it and says memory. So i connect the yellow and red together and then connect to power source? Also all fuses are fine.
