Can someone explain when the tach options on this remote starter are used? It has tach, DBI tach, voltage & hybrid.
I'm used to using the negative tach signal that gave me no problems no matter which car I installed a remote starter on. Now....I'm feeling obsolete!
Someone help please.

Tach = hardwire tach usually AC voltage from coil or injector.
dbi tach = stands for data bus interface tach. (bypass must support tach output from vehicle data)
Voltage = voltage sense as standing battery voltage is usually lower than sytem voltage when running.
Hybrid = compatible with hybrid vehicles.

If I decided to use the voltage option instead of tach would I connect the tach line to the battery?

In a word don't use tach voltage it's unreliable especially when the temperature drops.
What vehicle?

No not for voltage sense at least with the DEI Brands.

2012 SF 3.5L V6
Only reason I'm opting to use the voltage is I have the OEM remote start and don't want to run the line to the injector or ECM (its bolted onto the air filter housing). I've tried using the tach line for the factory remote start but the Prestige doesn't sense it for whatever reason so I'm opting to use the tach voltage. My first remote start used voltage and I had no problems with it.
Actually the alarm died years before the car did! Granted it was a 94 Protege and isn't the same as a 12 SF but I'm sure the electronics have improved since then.

Just to clarify you are doing the Prestige tach learning proceedure when using the factory tach wire?
If vehicle requires a bypass, Does the bypass you are using have a vehicle data to tach output?

Prestige kit isn't sold in the UK but a customer brought one over from a US trip for me to install in a Range Rover. I tried 4 KNOWN tach signal wires, none worked. I went to an injector, still nothing and it wouldn't go into programming mode. In desperation there's an external trigger wire, blue/black(?). I grounded it and everything seemed to come together.
I've since noticed a couple of posts on Prestige R/S with people having similar problems.

Yes, I tried multiple times but get no response from the module that it learned the tach.
The factory remote start is a plug & play except for the tach, key sense, and dome illumination. The install manual for the remote start specifically tells you the GREEN/ orange is for the tach so attach it correctly to prevent damage to the starter. The factory remote starter works correctly so I know it's connected correctly.
