car dvd player wiring? '86 honda civic si

Installing a roof mounted DVD player for the entertainment of my two granddaughter's on our bi-monthly 50 mile drive to meet their mother. As the headliner will be coming out for recovering and I will have 2 days to run the necessary wiring before it is replaced, I want to do this right on the first attempt. First, the vehicle schematic of the interior light with the player wiring harness overlaid: Then the same schematic with my assumption of how to correctly wire this up. You will only need the door negative (blue w/dots) connected to trigger the new dome light when a door is opened. Do not connect the door positive to constant 12V+. Both are included to accommodate the two types of courtesy light triggers in different vehicles. The manual that came with your overhead unit should describe this. I would differ; unless you're only going to use the DVD unit with the engine running then your fuse connection to the red is OK. If the vehicle will be just sitting there then connect that red to an ACC e.g. at fuse box or ignition switch loom. Just a safety factor to protect your ignition system.

Yep, I just saw that (run or start). I assumed it was an accessory lead when I saw "fuse box". Yes, wire the red wire to an accessory lead as howie said instead of an ignition lead. the12volt • Support the12volt.com

Not trying to be anal and I know the OP wrote about a 50 mile drive but 10 minutes in a petrol (gas) station could ruin a coil. Safety first.

Story of my life! Jump in before engaging brain as you well know. Doing an alarm plus r/s on an 04 Range Rover the other week D/Techs said two green ignition wires, I've got starter turn over but not firing up, waste an hour testing (the ignition key is in the centre console, the wiring runs under driver's seat to the drive side kick panel floor loom). Then I remembered the previous one I'd done was a diesel, this was gasoline and you needed the extra thin gauge to spark up the engine ECU. Stubbornness/not thinking it through wastes time. BTW for your info, 02-06 Range Rover = BMW X5, 06-12 = Volvo.

Thanks for the reply and the continuing electrical education folks! FWIW the manual that came with the player is a travesty! Lacking huge amounts of info, has multiple contradictions on what little is there, etc. "Manuals" from these Asian companies seem to just get worse, not better and that doesn't help those of us,like myself,who struggle with electrical issues anyway! I actually knew that the 12v+ ACC line needed to be on an accessory fuse but then incorrectly labeled everything. Hence the reason I ran it by the helpful folks here...thanks for steering me in the right direction on the door light trigger and the ACC+ line. My altered plan is below. Skip
