I am an Amateur Radio Operator and need information on installing two wires from the battery through the firewall of a 2005 Camry. Where is the best place on the firewall to install  the wires.

Thanks

Hey aa3eu Newbie

Regardless of what car you have , the problem of running wire into a firewall is always the same. Cars are always different in this respect because different models use different wiring and therefore different holes in the firewall.

Look for rubber grommets (plugs) in the firewall and if you find one that is at least 6 to 9 inches below the hood line then poke a 2 foot long coat hanger through it ( disconnect your battery first to prevent any shorts to electrical stuff ) if you are lucky you will find a path for your wires . Slice the grommet in the middle just enough to pass the wires through so it will protect them from being incontact with the surrounding sharp metal. If you cant find a grommet you will have to roll the dice and very carefully select a spot where you drill your own hole. If this is the case be sure before you drill and also see your parts supply store to get a grommet to fit the drilled hole to protect the wires from damage from the sharp hole . IMPORTANT: Fuse these wires AT the battery before they go through the wall !

you can almost always find an empty spot to go through the firewall to the left of the brake pedal(looking toward the front of the car) where the clutch linkage would pass through for a manual transmission.  Since I'm gonna assume your Camry is auto-trans (I think about 99.9% are) you can probably use this location.  It's where I went through on my 97.

but do listen to paul and get a grommet and a good fuse holder with proper amperage fuse

Life moves pretty fast; if you don't stop and look around once in a while; you could miss it.
