Hello, I just bought a Delco radio off Ebay and it is locked. It is a radio for a chevy Impala and a few other vehicles as well, but it does not say Theftlock on it like other Delco radios do that I have seen so i didnt think it had it. I looked in my owners manual and it mentioned that the theftlock remembers part of the VIN for that vehicle and it doesn't say much more. does anyone know how to unlock this thing so i dont have to go to the dealer and pay big bucks just to have it unlocked?

I dont know how to unlock them without the code but I do know that the raidos in impalas work on the data bus and the radio only works for the car it came in. I'm not for sure if you can put it in a new car. Anyone else have any ideas?

More than likely the radio is coded with the original vehicle's VIN#. If the radio's VIN# does not match the vehicle VIN then the radio will not work. Thats how the 2003 GM SUV's and trucks work. Only the dealer can reprogram it with a TECH tool.

I called the dealer and they told me they could walk me through getting the codes and the guy had no Idea what he was talking about.  He must have thought it was a regular theftlock radio.  He didn't even know what I was talking about when I told him the manual said that the radio remembers the VIN.  and to think that is the guy that you have to pay more money to then anyone and he doen't even know my car.  Awww Sheeeeit.  So what do you think of RF/FM modulated CD Changers?

The radio has to have some kind of prom if you could figure out how to get at it...that would solve that issue.  BUT I do not know how to access it....sorry

Its actually flash memory. The radio gets programmed on the assembly line depending if the vehicle has a BOSE amp, non-BOSE amp, or no amp.

2001 Venture, and the radio came out of a 2001 Cavalier  Z24.  The radio production date is the Aug 2000.
