93 S-10 Blazer Override Switch on Backup Camera

'93 S10 Blazer...Installed backup cam with a monitor on dash.Works fine.I used a 2.4ghz wireless transmitter in rear.Wired it's 12V and Camera 12V+ to back up lite wire in factory trailer wiring.Used the ground in that bundle to ground both wireless transmitter and camera. Up front tapped into backup light wire(light green)for power to wireless receiver and monitor.Video is transmitted and received via wireless modules. I would like to have a switch on dash that would turn on back up cam and not the backup lites in one position and work in reverse in other positon.. Relays ,Diodes or is it even possible without hard wiring between Monitor and Camera...Thanks for any help..I am certainly no electronic expert so appreciate and details....Fuzz Castle Rock CO and Rodeo NM

You would need to run a dedicated wire to power up the camera transmitter.

Thanks eguru.As I said I'm having a hard time getting this in my head. So if I run a 12v wire to the camera say from Ign.But use the backup 12v powering the monitor The backup lites would come on.Maybe I just power up both the monitor and camera from a 12v source thru a simple on/off switch and just turn it on when needed (manually)..Thanks again.Sorry I'm so confused on this.Fuzz Castle Rock CO and Rodeo NM

I assume that you would always want the camera to function automatically when reversing and additionally when you activate the over-ride switch. Just add a diode in series with the existing feed from the reverse wire to the camera and then connect your switched wire directly to the camera. The diode will prevent the reverse lights from being fed when you use the override switch. Of course the monitor will also have to receive a feed from both the reverse feed and the override switch (again isolated by a diode).

Make sure your diode is rated at more than the total current draw of the monitor and camera.
