I'm looking at buying an AVH=P6500DVD deck from a friend of mine. The hide-away unit was destroyed in an accident.

Is it possible to still use the deck without the hide-away unit? From my understanding, I won't be able to have aux inputs, radio antenna hookup or rear video output. Is there anything else I won't be able to do?

Thanks

AL

What do you mean the "hide away" unit? Are you talking about when the screen is closed, and the time is displayed? Tell him you want to hook up the unit before you buy it. He should let you do that much since he is your friend and all.

The hide-away unit... sometimes refered to as the brain. is't about 6 inches by 4 inches and it connects to the deck with a 21 pin cable and a 26 pin cable. it is hidden in your dash.....

You dont need the hideaway brain, You can hook this unit straight up to a pioneer stacker controller head unit and still get basically all features.

Well don't know if thats true....I own the 7500dvd which is basically almost the same unit but with better eq and crossovers and 7" screen....I know with mine you definately need the hideaway unit otherwise the unit won't even power up....It has to see some signal through One of the cables from the brain.....

No, you dont need the hide away unit, any pioneer head unit that is p,bus ready will operate this system.     I have this same setup in my sound board .

Then the 7500dvd version must be truly unique.......It cannot power up withouth the hideaway unit....I have tried many times.....

What do you mean by a "stacker controller head unit"??? I can not use the 6500 by itself, I need to buy a deck with a stacker controller????
