I put in a N2 and an Ipod interface for a customer, it shows him the track number and the track time and he can change tracks but to get title displays, everytime he turns the car on he has to go through the menu system to turn it on using "function 3". Is this standard and just stupid or is there something else going on here?

it is the hardware in the N2.  shows up as an external source.  no way to change it.

Ext1 no way to change.
As far as always having to change to Function 3, sounds like the Pioneer Ipod interface isn't connected correctly. The yellow wire is a probably connected to a 12 volt switched instead of a 12 volt constant which causes the ipod interface to loose the setting every time the car is turned off....
