i found a few days ago, in my wife's car (1994 Vw Jetta), in the water oil, and in the engine water. so i decided to change the head gasket. i did it, i put everithing back, the timing belt on signs(i hope i did it right), but when i started the engine everything was right except that the oil gauge was blinking all the time. i let it to run 10-15 seconds, stopped the engine and tried again. the same problem. the oil level is normal but the oil is not coming in the engine. can somebody give me an ideea what can be wrong: head gasket, timing belt, or should i take out the oil pump and clean it because of the problems before to change the head gasket. the oil gauge was blinking before but just when the engine was overheated, and, when happened, i pushed the acceleration and the light stopped blinking. now, even if i start pressing the acceleration, the light doesn't want to turn off, and i was afraid to let it to run to much. please help me! if i would have more money i would take it to a mechanic, but i can't afford that. thanks

This can be many problems. First, check you oil filter to make sure that there is no foriegn object in it and that its seated properly. If that doesn't help, change the oil and the filter. Next if that dosen't help your going to need to remove the oil pan and check the pump and make sure the pump screen isn't cloged. If you need to do that you might to take it to a mechanic because it might be kinda hard to remove a oil pan without a lift. If none of that works then you have a cylinder leak and you'll need to presure test all the cylinders and if any aren't holding presure your going to replace the pistion rings and/or pistion. Hope that helps!

i changed the oil filter and the oil, too. my main concern is the timing belt. the only operations i did were to change the head gasket, put the timing belt on the old signs, oil, oil filter and that's it. i'm thinking that one of this caused my problems. but which one thanks

what is the problem exactly, i dont understand what you mean by water oil in, and in the engine water. Did you have the presure problem before or after changing the gasket? If you had oil in the coolant with the presure problem you have a leaky pisiton ring or bad header. And it goes vice versa, if you had coolant in the oil same problems. If your having the pressure problem after changing the gasket then you didn't do the gasket right because isn't sealing the oil lines. As soon as we get those problems solved I would take to a mechanic to have to the timing adjusted, even if you lined it right, but it wouldn't cause nothing but misfiring so don't worry about it now. Hope I'm helping

i had problems with presure before just when i was waitting at a light stop. happened for a few times and i put the car in parking gear and the light stopped blinking. when i put it again in Drive gear, the light went on, but when i was starting to drive the car the light was off again and, i suppose, the presure ok. now the oil gauge is staying ON all the time (i told you that i've tried twice 10-15 sec each time, i was afraid to do it more), and i feel like the engine has no oil. what i found in the coolant system and in the engine was like a white grease, and after got dried was dificult to take it off. i did it with a screwdrived. what i don't understand is that why i do not have at least the same low presure like before? and where got lost? thanks

change your pcv valve, sounds like possably a vacum problem with the oil lite coming on only when your parked due to there is not enough pressure for a idling eninge to suck the oil as your speed increses so does the vacum. If your finding a white grease subtance your head gasket is melting or som got sliped in somewhere. I'll look around to see what else I can find.

goto https://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/tsb/central2.cfm put in your car and what not. Read the things under engine. There is some things on tightening your header and things like that. Make sure you have your bolts down tight because that would cause bad presure and if you overtighted you might of squezed your gasket out and thats where the white grease might be coming from.

let say i would take to a mechanic and he would tell me that the compresion in the engine is normal. what should i do after that? take out the oil pump and clean it? change again the head gasket (maybe i made a mistake when i installed it)? thanks

Well I would try changing the PVC and see what happens. If your stil having problems, clean the oil pump. Then if all else fales, take it to a mechanic. It really hard for me to exactly pin point the issue without being right next to it but I hope i'm helping out. Let me know how it goes. Have you tried calling a Jetta dealer and talking to a mechanic about the problem? Just tell them you run your own shop and your stumped about a cusomter car - they'll usally go step by step on fixing it with ya but they won't if you say your just a do it yourselfer.

Finally i did it. one of the oil sensors was broken. still there is a small problem. when the engine overheated (somewere around 195-200 F) the oil light start blinking lightly, but i bought a new thermostat (180F) and i'm gona change it to not hit the 200F. around 180F everything works perfect. thanks to all of you for the best advices. this is a really great site.

Oil sensor what a great and logical answer!!?!?!? They always say the simplest answers probably is the right one - it never dawned on me though!
