I wanted to know how could I look at a woofer and be able to know if it is an IB woofer or one that should be used in a box? Does IB (Infinite Baffle) mean the same thing as free air?

You can't just look at a sub and determine if it's IB or not.  It's gonna look exactly like it's boxed counterpart.  The spec sheet will tell you if it's IB or not.

Yes, Infinity Baffle is the same as Free Air.

Thanks Megaman.....here are the specs of the woofer. Dayton said it could be used in a free-air because the QTS is high. In my reading of these terms..I would think that the VAS would be better reference...but I am new at understanding about speaker measurements.
