i have a 87 dodge ramcharger V8 318 5.2L and the thing that pushes the fuel pump to pump gas is dull! so i bought a electric fuel pump. there are two wires (ground and hot), i know where to put the ground. the hot? i was told to hook it up to the ignition (something that powers on only when the key turns). i want to put it near the tank so heat won't vapor lock it. how do i run this wire and where do i run it to? sorry so new.

Ok you first need to find your ignition wire(should be blue). This wire will test hot or +12V when the key is in the run position and will stay hot when the key is cranking. Then you shold solder a wire to the igntion wire and fuse it at what ever the fuel pump recommends. Then you need to get the wire out of the car, through the firewall would be best and make sure that is loomed. Then just run it to the place your are mounting your fuel pump securing it to the frame or anything that doesn't move too much and then just connect it to the fuel pump.

I promise to be good.

I've been sick lately, sorry I won't be on much.
it must be a carb motor to have a mech fuel pump. fix the mech pump. elect pumps have too much danger. in a roll over without a merc switch to kill the pump you will just feed the fire.

speedway your right but the new mech fuel pump i put in it doesn't work either. that rod that pumps it is dull so instead of breaking the Water Pump, Timing Chain, and all the stuff thats in front of it down i went with the Elec Pump. Auex your directions were very clear and simple but i'm a baby at this stuff, so i decided to do this. let me know what u think.
mount the Elec fuel pump. wire it to a switch which is connected to the (+) battery. (oh yeah and connect it through an in-line fuse.) its kinda like a kill switch. BAD PART. if i forget to turn that switch off it'll keep pumpin. so i got a switch with a blinking L.E.D. now i don't what i should wire to the LED part. what do u all think?
