How do you hard wire a radar detector that uses a cigarette lighter usually without damaging the car's wiring?
I've been working on my car all day, i just finished and realized i forgot to do this. i feel like an idiot

Some radar detectors run on 9 volts. You really need to check and see if your detector is a 12 volt unit. The piece that plugs into the cigarette lighter MAY have a voltage regulator circuit inside of it's case.

We either plug the cigarette plug into a female adapter and wire that up, or solder on some wire to the cigarette plugs metal connectors. That way both the voltage regulator and internal fuse is retained.

using an ohm meter, determine which of the 2 connections of the end of the cable is connected to the tip of the cigarette lighter plug. It is probably going to be the center part of the connector. Once you determine this, cut the cigarette lighter plug off of the wire. Strip the wire and using the meter again, determine which of the 2 wires are connected to the portion of the plug you found to be connected to the tip of the cigarette lighter plug. Label it as hot. If there are a black and red wire in the wire you cut, NEVER assume that red is hot and black is ground. If you are putting this in the Blazer, I have no idea which fuse you need to connect it to in the fuse box, or which of the 2 fuse boxes it is located in, but there is one fuse that is suitable for this application. Maybe someone else can give you the location of the fuse. If there is a lighter socket in the vehicle that goes off with the key, you could run the wire to the back of that socket and catch power there. Use an in-line fuse holder and a 3 amp fuse.
