no test lights for newbies

Just a general suggestion I thought I'd make and see what everyone else has to say about it.  I see a lot of posts helping people who are just starting out with car electronics, in which someone suggests that the newbie use a test light to troubleshoot.  Now before you all go nuts and say I'm a moron and test lights are fine, lemme finish.  Test lights are fine if you know how to use them and when to NOT use them.  I have yet to find a newbie that knows how to use one in an automobile properly.

I think we can all agree that the last thing we want is for someone to go and fry their ECU or set off an airbag or anything unnecessary like that, so how about we tell them just to use a DMM to troubleshoot?

The way I see it, those who know how to properly use a test light don't even need to be specifically told that--you just tell them to "check for voltage...." and they know how to properly do that (whether it be using a test light or a DMM).  So instead to the newbie you would say "use a DMM to check for voltage".

Anyone disagree with this or have a different idea?
