I am new here and I will admit first off that I don't know a lot about electronics. With that said, I have a question. I installed 2 electric cooling fans on my 2002 Chev truck. I wired them with 3 relays to where a coolant sensor triggers the relays and also they come on when the A/C compressor comes on. I put an LED on the dash so I will know when the fans are on. My problem is that when the fans are off and I am at highway speeds the air is turning the blades and the fans are acting like generators and lighting up the LED at a reduced intensity. I had a diode that I got from a friend who works a tractor dealer (don't know any specs but it was maybe a 14 gauge wire and had integral plug connectors) that I put inline to the power wire going to the fan and it solved the prob for a while but it recently burned up. My question is does anyone make a 12v diode that can take a 30 or 40 amp load? Or is there another way to fix it? Thanks for any suggestions.
Your LED at max needs 12vlt, 1.5 MA Wire another relay, geting ground or 12vlt from sensors and just wire like it was going to another fan but run the power out of it to the led.
Motorola makes a 10 amp diode that I have used in parallel to produce 30 amps worth of diode protection. If you still have a need let me know and I can drop them in the mail to you for $5.00 ea. Hope this helps.
