whats the best wayto go with 2 batteries?

if i connect them in parallel will that strain the alternator? or should i use an isolator?

If you use an isolator, they are still going to be connected in parallel. If you use a diode isolator, your battery voltage will be about 1/2 volt lower than it could be.

I have a 1997 chevy 1500 pickup and I also am wanting to install a second Battery, the truck has an extra battery tray on the drivers side of the vehicle and a 3 or 4 Guage wire running from existing battery to the Brake system and it runs right across the extra tray. I have considered tapping into this wire for the pos.+ connection. My worry is if the primary battery has low voltage will the starter draw to much for the 3 or 4 guage wire on the second battery?

Normally anytime you add a battery,cap,etc...It will put a strain on your alternator...Now the alternator has 2 batteries to charge...instead of one...

Thanks all I want is to maintain a second battery for an RV I will only use it in a desperate situation. currently I have a 12V+ post in the trailer plug that will charge the RV battery. an if i set a third battery in the vehicle then the system with the trailer plugged in would have three batteries all drawing from (1) Alternator will this be a problem especially at night when the headlights an all the trailer lights are on??
