I have a 97' Landcruiser for which I would like to build an enclosure for my subs.  I would like it to be discreet.  I have  a big wooden box now with 3- 10" (sounds ok) but I feel like I could make better use of the space and get better sound.

Any Ideas?

What are you trying to accomplish, and to what ends are you willing to go?  If you want to get tremendous sound and clarity in a small area (with amazing power handling) you should look into Boston Acoustics Pro Series subs.  The 12's each call for 1 cubic foot of volume, and the 10's each call for 1/2 cubic foot of volume.  The 12's each handle 1200 watts, and the 10's each handle 1100 watts.  I have always used Boston Pro subs, and have never been disappointed.  And, they truly do handle what they claim to.  If you go with those, obtaing a much more stealth like install would be possible, and the ways to do it would be pretty bountiful.  Hope this helps some.
