Hey all, I ahve come across a voltage regulator malfunction and was just curious if I could do the following

First of I have a portable 12v car cooler that had just died, after diagnosing the unit it turns out the voltage regulator has gone bad, the unit will work fine if I bypass the regulator. Now the regulator is a 10v 1amp regulator, which I do not have, however I do have two 5v1a regulators, so I was wondering could I put these two regulators together to make up the 10v dead regulator?

If you are talking about a 7805, I do not think you can run them in series.  They require a connection to ground to dissapate the voltage above 5volts.  Both of the regulators would need to be grounded.  Hence only 5 volts output.

Well, I attempted what I was questioning and yeah, no go. So for the time being i put in a 7812 instead just to get me by till i get a 7810.
