Today a customer is coming in to have his deck reinstalled after it was removed by a smog check professional. He was told that his car would not pass smog unless his aftermarket deck was removed. His car is a newer (not sure, maybe 2007-10) volkswagon beetle. Has anyone heard of this? Thanks.

No. Early 2000 ish VW had issues with having power ant wire tieing into data wire in aftermarket harness which result in the databuss to "stop" not allowing the use of an OBD11 scan tool. Some emmison test require scan tool hook up to check for codes..........If he was truly professional he would leave the car in the same condition that it arrived in.
