Can anyone tell me how to hardwire a small, common household appliance (3 prong) into a car? Do I need some type of converter? I don't want to take the easy way out & just buy a cigarette lighter adapter, & plug it in. Any specs on the item being wired I should watch out for (volts, amps, etc.). Thanx in advance.

You can get one of those converter's that plug into cigarette lighters, but you can hardwire the connection instead of having it plug into the lighter socket. This would be the easiest way to do this unless you are really handy with electronics and can make your own converter.

What you want is called a power inverter, basically it converts 12 volts DC to 110 volts AC .You need to calculate how many watts your household appliance uses, and buy one with a sufficient amount of watts. The more watts the more money they are. The cheaper ones plug into the cigarette lighter while the more expensive and higher watt ones are hard wired. In either case you can hard wire it to your car. Just be sure to run a separate fused power cable from the battery to the inverter. Here is a link that sells high quality inverters at a reasonable price. https://www.store.yahoo.com/powercraftonline/inverters.html
